Sam Byles

England Youth international Sam Byles played for England’s Under 16s in late 2007 in the Victory Shield a tournament shown live on Skysports, his excellent performances at left back as well as right back earned him rave reviews, as The Three Lions claimed the title.

Byles has been with Arsenal since the age of nine when he was spotted playing for Cuffley under-eights, and received the national call-up after impressing during England trials at Burton in August 2007.

Very quick and with a love to get forward he can play in a whole host of positions, all across the back four, to all across the midfield, adding power and energy to the team, he is also great on crossing, being able to use both feet with ease.

Dad Dean Byles confirmed to the Hertfordshire Mercury Sam has developed significantly since linking up with Arsenal saying:

“He’s had a great time at Arsenal and his game has come on leaps and bounds.

“The coaches there are excellent and it’s great experience for him. We’re just enjoying it while we can and making the most of the chance. Then we’ll see what happens.”

In January 2008 Sam signed scholarship terms with Arsenal, and will be looking to push on and play Under 18’s football after having a brief taste this term.
