Rui Fonte

Portuguese forward Rui Fonte signed for Arsenal initally on loan after being scouted playing for Sporting Lisbon Academy and Portugal’s youth team.
A quick classy forward, full of pace and running, he was introduced to Under 18s football, and 8 goals in 23 games as well as a bundle of assists meant Rui was quickly in Neil Banfield’s Reserves side. His impressive start to life with Arsenal led to his permanent signing in July 2007.
After being given a run out against Barnet in pre-season it was clear Arsene Wenger was a fan of the youngster who is captain of the Portugal Under 17s. Last season he led the line for Banfield’s Reserves side, and at times found the physical aspect a little difficult but still finished the season with 8 goals in all competitions.
The highly technical and creative forward will be a target for many clubs during the coming campaign, as Arsenal look to get the promising striker some much needed experience.

Hi there Palace fan here - we have Rui’s brother here, Jose, a very good centre half. I’m sure he has mentioned before his dream of having his brother in the same team and was thinking it could be a good loan move for Rui to get some first team action in the rough and tumble of the championship. Then Arsene could weave his magic and at the same time solve Portugal’s striking issues.
Just thought I would mention it and see if any of you guys have any comments on that idea.
Makes sense, he needs some experiance. Hes not the most prolific goal scorer but hes versatile and good on the ball. Needs to become a bit more composed thou, often panics a bit and lets easy passes go astray. Definatly has potential but needs to show it more often and get some consistancy to his game.
