Kerrea Gilbert

Kerrea Gilbert came through the Arsenal ranks playing as a left back and a series of impressive performances meant the tough tackling full back was drafted into the first team for the Amsterdam tournament in 2005.

With Arsenal having injury problems at right back, he started in Arsenal’s FA Cup win over Cardiff, switching to play on his natural right side he excelled, and played in the next 6 games, creating a goal for Thierry Henry with a excellent cross from the wing against Wigan in the Carling Cup, Henry and Wenger praised the youngster after the match.

Kerrea was then loaned to Cardiff City for a season to gain experience in the summer of 2006, he made an excellent start but a fall out with the coaching staff meant he finished the season playing for Cardiff Reserves. He returned to Arsenal at the start of the 07-08 season playing in the pre-season friendly with Barnet.

He was then loaned to Southend for 6 months, where he again argued with the coaching staff and was left out of the team.

Gilbert returned to Arsenal in January 2008 and will finish the season playing Reserve team football.

  1. im startin to give up hope on justin hoyte. is kerrea a better prospect for the future? has he even played for the reserves since returning from his loan spell?

  2. Justin will probably leave this summer, as will Kerrea Gilbert, he rarely players for our reserves and is 21 now, unless he really tries hard in pre-seaso to impress and earn a first team place then he will leave

  3. I think wenger likes him though, I thought I even saw him on the bench for a game this year???

  4. “I thought I even saw him on the bench for a game this year???”

Yea he was, cant be bothered to check which game but he was defintly on the bench for 1 of the last ones after returning from injury. I dont rate Justin and i havent seen much of Gilbert but id give him a go, although there are other options and of what i have seen of him (last reserve game of the season) i wasnt overly impressed, however i wont judge him on 1 game. There again hes leaving according to this blog so there goes that. Ive herad of his disciplinary problems alot though so its probably not a bad thing, hope he does well at West Ham.

  5. Hard to see how either Hoyte or Gilbert have long term futures. Although useless in midfield, it still seems that Eboue is a stronger right back (for some reason he appears better at going forward from that position than hew is on right side midfield). All of them have no hope of first team while the imperious Sagna struts his stuff

  6. “for some reason he appears better at going forward from that position than hew is on right side midfield”

I know exactly what you mean, right-mid is the only position we need a bit of filling out cuz if Hleb goes we only really have Eboue who can play there, and Van Persie and Fabregas who can fill in but are wasted there in my opinion. If we get Nasri in though hed be a definate contender, and there is Walcott, although id like to see him get more chances up front, but hes definatly a better choice than Eboue there.
