Eduardo In Action As Simpson Sinks Notts Forest

Eduardo da Silva stepped up his rehabilitation from a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle on Wednesday, as the Croatian striker featured for an Arsenal XI against Nottingham Forest, in a behind closed doors friendly.
The encounter was arranged due to the gap in fixtures which both second string sides suffer during November, but it also presented Arsène Wenger will an opportunity to give the 25-year-old some vital minutes in his bid for fitness. Forest have a strong relationship with the Gunners, after Liam Brady sent Abu Ogogo, Paul Rodgers and James Dunne to the City Ground for trials last month, with the latter being snapped up.
James Dunne is only on loan for the time being, meaning he did not get the opportunity to line up against Arsenal. The team had a strong Carling Cup feel too it, with the likes of Kieran Gibbs, Mark Randall and Gavin Hoyte all being involved. Banfield’s boys ran out 2-0 winners, as Jay Simpson continued his run of form with a well taken brace.
‘Dudu’ reportedly came through unscathed, and will now step up his training with the first team as he edges closer to a first team return. However, after Simpson’s strikes in the Cup and now against Forest, competition will be as hot as ever.

Yeah but then we also had Flamini and Hleb in very very good form. And Fabregas was also in super form. Sagna wasn’t injured and he was in very good form as well. Walcott made an impact every time he came in from the bench. We more players fit, in better form and we also had more experience in the team.
We lost experienced players like Gilberto, Lehmann and Hleb.

Great news. In what way is Simpson competition for Eduardo though? Simpson is struggling to just get on the bench despite all the injuries. He only got in the carling cup team because Bendtner had to play the weekend after. Eduardo is arguably our best striker, he is at worst 3rd choice, his competition is Bendtner and Vela in the short term and then Van Persie and Adebayor for first choice status after he regains form, if he slips behind Simpson it will only be because he is no longer the player he was and that would be a travesty.

if he makes a season debut before the end on january which it looks like he will then thats amazing. That brake was so bad people were talking about a year of rehabilitation, and even the possibility he’d never play again. It remains to be scene weather he can re-capture the good form he was starting to show last season, but just him being back nd able to train and hopefully soon play is massive.

J.Sanderson
Your earlier reports seemed to suggest that Simpson might not make it. With his recent performances in the CC games and now his brace against Forest, have you revised your views about him?
Has Simpson got what it takes to play regularly for the Arsenal in the next two years, possibly competing with Nik and Vela for the other supporting striker’s position?
Can Simpson become the next Anelka with his power, pace and directness?
howard said this on November 28, 2008 at 6:20 pm
Good on Simpson for forcing his way back to Wenger’s thinking but I feel and Wenger was well probably that he needs to show more variation to his game such as better link up, hold up play, movement etc. It’s all well and good playing on the last defender but if the service isn’t there you need something else.
SUPERGUNNER07; the youth team looks decent but not ground breaking IMO. It’s unfortunate for the youth competition there are players playing CC. There needs to be more creativity in central midfield and I think Ayling looks better off at RB.
Apparently Luis Gustavo Conte will have talks in a few days or so.

Is anyone watching the U-16’s?
Guierry said this on November 28, 2008 at 8:29 pm
IMO Jay Simpson can be a very good player. He’s no nonsense, he works hard, is fast and strong, and is a livewire in and around the penalty area. OK so his first touch can be sloppy and he’s not great at link up play, but I really think he could do a good job for us up top. I hope he makes it.

Simpson now has a poor touch and need to improve on link up play but so was Ade when he came three seasons ago even at an older age. Then same applies to Bendtner who still needs work to do.
Simpson offers what our current strikers don’t deliver, pace, power and directness, reminiscent of Anelka when he joined Arsenal.
In sum, I believe that given a chance to stay Simpson will improve.

arsenal would have won the primership if eduardo was not injured he was on fire unstopable,he was extablishing his name before jelous player(telor) got him injured.
ed would have help van, adebayor to secure the primership for arsenal if was not injured.Eduardo would have scoured at list 20 t0 30 goals cos he was fireying in unstopable goals .

Simpson better that Bendner. Personally Vela and Ade would be my starting strikers, or at least Vela on the wing over Denilson with Diaby in the middle.
Lets see how Dudu performs in a team that is much weaker following the loss of Flamini and the subsequent loss of form from FAB.
