Eduardo In Action As Simpson Sinks Notts Forest

Eduardo da Silva stepped up his rehabilitation from a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle on Wednesday, as the Croatian striker featured for an Arsenal XI against Nottingham Forest, in a behind closed doors friendly.

The encounter was arranged due to the gap in fixtures which both second string sides suffer during November, but it also presented Arsène Wenger will an opportunity to give the 25-year-old some vital minutes in his bid for fitness. Forest have a strong relationship with the Gunners, after Liam Brady sent Abu Ogogo, Paul Rodgers and James Dunne to the City Ground for trials last month, with the latter being snapped up.

James Dunne is only on loan for the time being, meaning he did not get the opportunity to line up against Arsenal. The team had a strong Carling Cup feel too it, with the likes of Kieran Gibbs, Mark Randall and Gavin Hoyte all being involved. Banfield’s boys ran out 2-0 winners, as Jay Simpson continued his run of form with a well taken brace.

‘Dudu’ reportedly came through unscathed, and will now step up his training with the first team as he edges closer to a first team return. However, after Simpson’s strikes in the Cup and now against Forest, competition will be as hot as ever.

  5. unbelievable

  6. Can’t wait for him to be back in the 1st team, he will do alot better than Bendtner. Ade and Dudu up front for me

  7. Brilliant News!!!!!!!

  8. Notts Forest? Do you mean Notts County or Nottingham Forest?

  9. sorry J, your info is incorrect. The plan was for eduardo to play the match but it was decided not to risk him so he didn’t get onto the pitch at all. You were correct on the simpson brace though. sorry to piss on your chips!

  10. Sorry to put a downer on things, but I 100% promise you Eduardo DID NOT feature in this game, he was scheduled to, but he was deemed not quite ready.

  11. this is the greatest thing, i cannot wait to watch him play again, we shall always be with u Edu’

  12. ANR reports that he didn’t play in the end against Forest-JS can you confirm that he definitely did?

  13. ANR says he didn’t end up playing??
    Who’s right?

  14. How long did he play? And do you think simpson has a chance at playing first team football then?

  15. great news! Can’t wait to see him in the 1st team

  16. Steve_Gooner has it bang on. The best football we played last year was with Adebayor and Eduardo together up front. Good news…

  17. Eduardo is the man. Probably best paired up front with adebayor

  18. Nice piece but a gentle tip it should be Nottm Forest – not Notts Forest being called Notts is like someone calling Arsenal the Gummers

  19. great news sir thanks for the update a wonderful player and great person met him once and he was so down to earth

  20. [...] Adebayor en Van Persie draaien al jaren mee op het hoogste niveau en dat geldt ook voor Rosicky en de terugkerende Eduardo. Het probleem is veel complexer dan veel ’experts’ het doen [...]

  21. Wahey!

  22. happy days. couldn’t have come sooner. Van Persie needs dropping. Thanks for reporting this J, I know your usually quite strict on sticking to youth stories!

  23. Yeah but then we also had Flamini and Hleb in very very good form. And Fabregas was also in super form. Sagna wasn’t injured and he was in very good form as well. Walcott made an impact every time he came in from the bench. We more players fit, in better form and we also had more experience in the team.

We lost experienced players like Gilberto, Lehmann and Hleb.

  24. what was the line-up/squad?

  25. Great news! Can’t wait to see Eduardo return for the first team!

  26. I still say it that if we had him fit last season we would have won the EPL. He was on fire.

  27. DAMMIT Unknown, let us have this moment of happiness :) lol. Anywho, even if he didn’t play, just to hear that he’s that close to playing is GREAT news!!!Can’t wait to see him play!!! No player in the squad is as lethal as him in front of goal(maybe except Vela :) !!! Jay should really get a chnace in the first team even if it’s on the wing coz when played there he’s done well!! Plus, he’ll do much better than Diaby, Son or Denilson in that position!!!Come on Eduardo!!!!

  28. prove it unknown

  29. at least the signs r good to even b considered 2 play this season is immense for edu….he shud b proud and we shud also thank the medical staff at arsenal….unlike some players they are clearly earning there wages!!!!! good luck eduardo

  30. Spot on ash!!! Great job by D med team @ Arsenal N D ones in Brazil!!! Can’t wait 4 D reception he’ll get when he plays his first game @ D Emirates!!! It would B cool if he started N D announcer did D whole, “Number 9″ ‘en D crowd screams “EDUARDO”!!! But then again, he’d prob get a louder ovation if he came on a sub!!! Screw it, I’m gonna start practising my scream now, screw D neighbours :D

  31. Have you seen this highlights on FA website. Some decent stuff played by both teams.

    Any proof?

  34. couldnt agree less FANTASTIC NEWS

  35. niceee,
wicked to see eduardo back. hopefully, with him to return to full flight fitness we could get rid of nicky bendtner. dont rate the man, hes decent but not good enough for arsenal

  36. welcome back brother

  37. but we still need some signings. a super midfield and a centre back. will u stop our noise,mr.wenger?

  38. what he played a full 90? very limited info on this post, makes me think unkown may be right, surely more sources would be talking about this if it happened?

  39. Fantastic news!!! Eduardo is the perfect partner to Adebayor, and definitely our best striker. His conversion rate is amazing, I’m looking forward to see him on the pitch, we missed him a lot!

  40. any body no the exact date he will be back

  41. What do you guys think about my predicted squad for CC match and FA youth line-up because they are both clashing date-wise?

    ————–Fabianski(C)——–

    Hoyte Djourou–Song–Gibbs

    Wilshere——-Randall–Ramsey—-Merida

    Bendtner—–Vela

Subs: Mannone, Rodgers, Steer, Lansbury, Bischoff, Simpson, Edu

    ——————————————————————

    —————-Shea——–

    Eastmond—Bartley—-Ayling(C)—Cruise

    Sunu——-Frimpong–Coquelin—-Thomas

    Fonte—–Murphy

Subs: Mann, Evina, Rassmussen, Deacon, Freeman

  42. hope to see him score for the first team soon.

  43. Come On DUDU

  44. Great news. In what way is Simpson competition for Eduardo though? Simpson is struggling to just get on the bench despite all the injuries. He only got in the carling cup team because Bendtner had to play the weekend after. Eduardo is arguably our best striker, he is at worst 3rd choice, his competition is Bendtner and Vela in the short term and then Van Persie and Adebayor for first choice status after he regains form, if he slips behind Simpson it will only be because he is no longer the player he was and that would be a travesty.

  45. Fantastic news

  47. if he makes a season debut before the end on january which it looks like he will then thats amazing. That brake was so bad people were talking about a year of rehabilitation, and even the possibility he’d never play again. It remains to be scene weather he can re-capture the good form he was starting to show last season, but just him being back nd able to train and hopefully soon play is massive.

  48. J do you know anything about Luis Gustavo Conte rumours?????

  49. J.Sanderson

Your earlier reports seemed to suggest that Simpson might not make it. With his recent performances in the CC games and now his brace against Forest, have you revised your views about him?

Has Simpson got what it takes to play regularly for the Arsenal in the next two years, possibly competing with Nik and Vela for the other supporting striker’s position?

Can Simpson become the next Anelka with his power, pace and directness?

  50. Good on Simpson for forcing his way back to Wenger’s thinking but I feel and Wenger was well probably that he needs to show more variation to his game such as better link up, hold up play, movement etc. It’s all well and good playing on the last defender but if the service isn’t there you need something else.
SUPERGUNNER07; the youth team looks decent but not ground breaking IMO. It’s unfortunate for the youth competition there are players playing CC. There needs to be more creativity in central midfield and I think Ayling looks better off at RB.
Apparently Luis Gustavo Conte will have talks in a few days or so.

  51. Is anyone watching the U-16’s?

  52. IMO Jay Simpson can be a very good player. He’s no nonsense, he works hard, is fast and strong, and is a livewire in and around the penalty area. OK so his first touch can be sloppy and he’s not great at link up play, but I really think he could do a good job for us up top. I hope he makes it.

  53. how did benik afobe do tonight??????

  54. anyone know what the england u16’s score is and if afobe has scored or played well?

  55. Yep, he started and scored.

England won 2-0 and retain the Victory Shield.

    http://goonertalk.com/2008/11/28/afobe-impresses-as-england-retain-victory-shield/

  56. Afobe scored a header tonight as England went on to win 2-0.

  57. 2-0 england afobe got 1

  58. benik played well, won man of the tournament, and importantly scored to equal Owens record! Congratulations to him, he looks like a big talent! Can’t wait to see him play for our first team!

  59. england won 2-0, benik afobe scored the 1st. England win victory shield.

Afobe finished with 4 goals in the tournament.

  60. England U16’s won 2-0, Benik Afobe scored the 1st goal.

  61. good 2 hear welcome back, ihope u will be strong than what i expect.

  62. The Brain, they have been playing that back 4 or 3 of the 4 consistently recently so i dont expect any major change their.

Ayling and Hoyte are only played RB to improve their technique on the ball anyway so i dont think he will play at RB in the FAYC.

  63. Afobe and Wickham 2-0 to England. He had another good chance to own the record on his own but the keeper saved it.

  64. 2-0. Afobe got a goal (just one though)

  66. yeh afobe scored a goal it was aiight header hes kinda tall uno and he can handle the physical

  67. England won 2-0, Afobe scored the first

  68. He scored once

  69. Benik scored first of the two goals for England U 16s….J do you know any thing about Luis Gustavo Conte rumours…????????????

  70. Nacer Barazite

Simpson now has a poor touch and need to improve on link up play but so was Ade when he came three seasons ago even at an older age. Then same applies to Bendtner who still needs work to do.

Simpson offers what our current strikers don’t deliver, pace, power and directness, reminiscent of Anelka when he joined Arsenal.

In sum, I believe that given a chance to stay Simpson will improve.

  71. Great news…. Cant wait to see him in action again for the 1st Team. COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!!!

  72. Yeah!
    Eduardo!

  73. england won 2-0 afobe scored with a very good header… think it was frm a corner.

  74. it was 2-0 to england, afobe scored one, dunno who scored the other.

  75. England won 2-0 and afobe scored with a header and nearly had another but the goalie saved it

  79. Hayyp to hear about eduardo coming back soon i cant wait to see him play again,
arsenal would have won the primership if eduardo was not injured he was on fire unstopable,he was extablishing his name before jelous player(telor) got him injured.
ed would have help van, adebayor to secure the primership for arsenal if was not injured.Eduardo would have scoured at list 20 t0 30 goals cos he was fireying in unstopable goals .
we all arsenal fans love you and we cant wait to see you again in the pitch eduardo.

from Steve (Arsenal fan ,Limerick ireland)

  80. Simpson better that Bendner. Personally Vela and Ade would be my starting strikers, or at least Vela on the wing over Denilson with Diaby in the middle.

Lets see how Dudu performs in a team that is much weaker following the loss of Flamini and the subsequent loss of form from FAB.

  81. well i dont see how hell ever get past van persie and adebayor, theyve gt much more quality, its just true. but maybe he might, you never kno.

  82. ind_gonner, they played Scotland not Wales

  83. Hayyp? Happy.

    Primership? Premiership.

    Etc.

  84. i hope denilson wotches a.cole’s forward runs

  85. Luis Gustavo Conte setanta said they gonna sign that 14 year old brazilian is that true?

  86. Everytime I see someone say Simpson is better than Bendtner I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I always end up laughing though.
