Afobe Chasing Michael Owen’s Historic England Record

Arsenal striker Benik Afobe will take to the field for England’s Under 16’s tomorrow evening, knowing a hat-trick would etch his name into The Three Lions record books.
Afobe has three goals from Victory Shield fixtures against Northern Ireland (2) and Wales (1), and should he add to his tally further on Friday night, he can match, or even overtake Michael Owen’s all time record.
A brace would put Benik on 5 overall – matching the Newcastle hit-mans rate – whilst a hat-trick would mean the 15-year-old becomes the leading goalscorer in Victory Shield history. It would be a massive moment for Afobe, who is yet to even establish himself in Steve Bould’s Under 18’s.
Joshua Rees and Chuks Aneke have been dropped from the squad, meaning Afobe is the sole Gunner in the ranks. A point will all but seal the imminent retention of the annual trophy, but the Benik sideshow will spice up a cold evening in Lincoln.
Indeed, it almost seems like it’s ‘meant to be’ as England play their first game in Lincolnshire for 50 years. That record will be broken before kick off, and if the visitors underestimate Benik Afobe, there is no doubt a second could also be dispatched before the night’s over.
Best of luck, Benik

If Scotland are not to defensive he will do it because his finishing his too good for U16 level. I am glad he is training full-time at Colney under AW’s nose & may be get some calls to 1st team training. I hope continues to practice very hard because his potential is extremely high.

Great Jamie. Afobe seems to be first class. I can’t wait to see him in the PL. Do you think he can beat Wilsheres record ?

Afobe is a Profigy,
Like Rooney was,
Expepct a Squad Number next season!

What I find strange is why he’s not starting in the U18s. Does Bould not rate him enough yet? I mean, Rhys Murphy and Wilshere were prolific goalscorers in the U18s as 15 year olds.

The England U16’s vs Scotland U16’s will be a very difficult game to win on Friday evening IMO.

It’s all about compeition. There’s lots of it, but he has time on his side.
Phader – more like an Eto’o
J.Sanderson said this on November 27, 2008 at 1:10 am
Does he play like Eto’o?
Or Does he play like an Owen?

He doesn’t look like he has the body type of either player. What type of striker is he?
Keile said this on November 27, 2008 at 6:56 am
I think he look’s quite much of an Heskey type but with more pace.

Do you think Afobe will take the same route that Wilshere took? Under 18’s matches till around feb and then a couple reserve appearances. Then maybe some games in pre season and possibly a first team squad number next season. Cos I heard hes the next big thing to come out our academy!
chass said this on November 27, 2008 at 11:32 pm
It will be harder for him to break into the reserves than it was for Wilshere due to the amount of strikers we have at that level Murphy,Freeman,Fonte,Simpson,Sunu and a few others
