Exclusive – Hoyte Replaces Gallas In Arsenal Starting XI

Arsenal Reserve team captain Gavin Hoyte will make his Premiership debut tomorrow afternoon, as Arsène Wenger takes his struggling outfit to Manchester City.
The news comes after first team skipper William Gallas was reportedly stripped of the armband following his arrival from International duty with France. Fellow Reserve team players Henri Lansbury and Jay Simpson will take up places on the bench, as injuries take hold.
Emmanuel Adebayor joins Gallas in being absent, as Wenger puts his faith in some of the fearless Carling Cup youngsters.
Follow all the build up ahead of tomorrow’s clash over at Gooner Talk.

Subs: Fabianski, Song, Gibbs, Diaby, Lansbury, Vela, Simpson

Yeah. Hoyte will be pawned by Robinho. I’d say expect a hattrick from Robinho.

remember ders still song aswell, probably gna play him in midfield defensive, denilson attackin mid, nasri left, eboue on the right, bendtner wid diaby behind him, same old same old mark this as another loss stephen ireland is gonna play sick watch
anonymous said this on November 21, 2008 at 6:20 pm
Great for Gavin, but surely there are enough fit first team defenders still in front of him the pecking order?
I know Kolo and Sagna are out, but that still leaves Clichy, Silvestre, Song & Djourou, even taking into account your supposition that Gallas is being left out. This would be a rash decision in my opinion.
P_Unit said this on November 21, 2008 at 6:21 pm
A little bit perspective is needed. Do you guys honestly think Hoyte is good enough to go against likes of Robinho, heck even SWP or Ireland? Absolute disgrace if this happens. I know a talent when I see one. Hoyte does possess talent, but not enough to stop the best LM in PL this season – Robinho.
HAL said this on November 21, 2008 at 6:21 pm
i’d love to see Hoyte start 2mora, but jst think Wenger would play Song at RB. Hoyte is a promising young talent n is better than Justin his older brother, but this is too big of a game for him to start agaisn’t the likes of Robinho n Wright Phillips

real talk arsenal need a dominating english man thru the middle dey have heart look at gerrard, carragher, rooney, jenas, nolan, downing, players that will die for dere team
anonymous said this on November 21, 2008 at 6:23 pm
Gallas is the only defender who gives a shit about us winning, and defending as a team. People are of course swayed by Sky’s so-called pundits, and MOTD’s so-called specialists. Bullcrap if we are to snub our best defender!
I know he is hated and all that. But that shouldn’t stop him from playing. If this is Wenger’s decision – It’s a blunder. IF Gallas has volunteered to not travel – then it’s fine, there is no other choice.
All said, our players are so arrogant, and not organized. They get paid a lot, and spoilt a lot by ARsene. That is all I’d say. Not in defence of Gallas, but I can understand the frustration. He shouldn’t have gone public though…
HAL said this on November 21, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Correct decision on Gallas, should have happened months ago. The squad needs to be improved with a couple of players in their prime ie 27/28 years old. New keeper, centre half and ball winning midfielder are priorities. Arsene knows? Or needs to be told?

Based on the evidence of his sub appearence last week, I would say that Ade is not fit yet and was rushed back too soon. Does anyone know if he played for Togo in the week?
RE: Hoyte v Robinho… I too think he will struggle. However if it was Wenger who took the captaincy from Gallas and also dropped him, then personally I would accept a bad result tommorow for the future good of our club. Wenger needed to be strong in this situation and if what we are hearing tonight is true, then I think he has done the right thing.

HAL, you make alot of good points, i hate the media so much, they never give 2 sides analysis about Arsenal.
Look at our reserve performance after the CC S Utd match, with some young players think they have the divine right to something. Also Wenger was once he was asked he rotates which reserves players that he puts on the bench & he replied its bcuz he doesnt want to give them too much too soon otherwise the stop practising after training.
Also looking at the last’s CC graduates, Denilson, Bendtner, Diaby need to give more when we dont the ball. As for RVP he attitude and temper needs to improve big time & he to must work harder off the ball for the team. Gallas is not the best captain ever but he makes alot truthful points if only others had his committment.
supergunner07 said this on November 21, 2008 at 6:39 pm

BooMeR, I see where you coming from. Gallas has actually done alright in the last couple of games. He was excellent against Man U and I thought he was unfairly criticised about the second Villa goal. However, I just think Wenger had to really lay down the law this time for the good of the club.

Gallas is a nightmare and had to be dropped, we are the arsenal not the gallas show. Things at our club have always been sorted in house to ensure that we dont look like a tin pot outfit like the spuds with in house issues aired in the public domain.
This will allow Djourou (yet to conceed) to come in to the team and sort our defence out…even if we lose tomorrow, this is a blessing in disguise
RickyGee said this on November 21, 2008 at 6:46 pm
and aint eboue still injured i think ramsey will play on the rite of midfield he played him there in the homw game against fernabache
superfab said this on November 21, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Not surprised, he’s done well in the Carling Cup. But I’m sure Adebayor will be in the squad as he came on as sub last week. If this Gallas thing is true (not saying it isn’t, its just that SkySports announced it after the runours on the internet)
My guess of the team would be:
Almunia
Hoyte
Djourou
Silvestre
Clichy
Diaby
Denilson
Song
Nasri
RVP
Ade
Subs: Fabianski, Ramsey, Vela, Bendtner, Wilshere, Gibbs, Simpson
I would have played Ramsey ahead of Song but that may change, seeing as our defence is younger
Ben said this on November 21, 2008 at 6:47 pm

Think Gallas had to be stripped of captaincy. He embarrased our football club. I understand his comments but publicising them was wrong.
Gallas and Fabregas are our two best players, the two that have acheived more than most. Theyre hurting more than anyone and thats all due to Wenger not matching thier ambition by not buying the class and experience we needed in the summer. Gallas is finished at Arsenal now & Fabregas doesnt look too happy either.
Wenger needs to replace the likes of Diaby, Denilson and Song with proven worldclass players like De Rossi & Schweinsteiger or risk losing Fabregas in the summer

Diaby can’t get in the French squad. He doesn’t have a position. He goes missing most matches. Has no positional sense. Can’t defend. Doesn’t understand the game. This team cannot move forward until the likes of Eboue and Diaby are moved on. They simply aren’t good enough…

what a shit move, dropping the captain 1 day before a match. It could have atleast been done in a better way, or atleast asking him to step down. Hes our only half decent defender at the moment. He cares about winning. I think hes a cunt but we shouldnt be dropping our best players for speaking the truth. Some of his comments were excessive but hes right about us not being brave enough. I wanna see how Wenger handles this one… how will he manage to put a positive spin on this one?? Now we have an absoloute novice in our starting line-up… fucking stupid, Wengers been loosing for a while now. I am in no way saying he should go but he should have a look at himself.
I can only hope this isnt true and I wouldnt be surprised if it isnt. The team would already be in Manchester way before this whole Gallas being axed came about.
Gallas is right. Although he, as captain, shouldnt be talking about the dressing room in the papers.

CEOT: The fact that Diaby was the french u19 captain and u21 captain (if I’m not mistaken) before the injury coupled with being a graduate of Clarefontane would suggest otherwise dont you think??? The boy is quality, the problem is that he plays in Cescs position

Vela lost his head in the last min’s of the game while trying to kick the ball off of a player he hit his leg instead and he was given a red card for that..
Ed said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:04 pm
RickyGee: No doubt Diaby has talent, rare dribbling ability, inconsistent yet often good passing, but his pedigree has not been realised. Is he good enough to displace Cesc? Or even Denilson as Cesc’s long-term understudy?
I have a lot of sympathy for what he’s gone through with the assault he suffered from that Sundyland c-nut. Nonetheless, he isn’t good enough and isn’t suited to our pass and move style.
The team would surely benefit from a proper left sided midfielder brought in ahead of him. And as for playing behind the striker, I for one would rather see us attack with Vela or RvP dropping deeper when needed.

Hoyte Djourou Silvestre Clichy (If Eboue and Ade are healthy)

Almunia
Hoyte Djourou Silvestre Clichy (If not)
Nasri Denilson Song Diaby

No Randall? You would have expected him to be given a place over Lansbury and especially given that he was rested against Norwich for the reserves.
Davo said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Matt, Sky Sports News just showed live footage of the squad getting off the bus at their hotel in Manchester. There was no sign of Gallas. From a young player perspective I saw Wilshere, Gibbs, Hoyte and Simpson. Didnt see Lansbury but others here are saying he will be in the squad.
km1980 said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Surely Mérida should be above Lansbury in the pecking order and therefore he should be given the opportunity to sit on the bench instead? I would find it very strange if this is not the case.
aqqe said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:19 pm
apparently gallas doesn’t get on with cesc, nasri or ade. Rvp doesn’t get on with theo and ade butts bendtner, who isn’t very popular either by all accounts. Team spirit in general definetly seems to be lacking. Wenger needs to move on those lacking in quality and those damaging morale, starting with the skipper
j-hi said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Randall is probably injured, which explains why he didn’t play in the Norwich game.
As for Bischoff, he’s still working up to full match fitness, If I remember correctly, Neil Banfield said he wouldn’t be in his peak til New Year.
And Adebayor came back late this afternoon, so it’s unlikely he’ll be involved, let alone start.
Gooner Chris said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:20 pm

Matt said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:21 pm
CEOT: Agreed with regards to playing left but in the centre, I would play him, Cesc and Den at the mo. As for not being as good as Cesc it’s incredibly difficult to make a comparison…Would he get as many assists? Maybe. Would he get more goals? I have no doubt that he would. Is he likely to win more balls in the air? Yes. Can he pass and move like Cesc? Not in a million years.
He may not suit our pass and move style but we dont have anyone apart from Ade (he tries) that can hold the ball in the opponenets half, slow the game down, have a look and build from there since Hleb left.
RickyGee said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Yep, Gallas isn’t friends with Nasri at all.
Nasri took Thierry Henry’s seat on the coach at Euro2008, it all stemmed from that. A training ground incident subsequently followed in the French camp, in which Gallas shouted at Nasri and told him he “was not Nasri’s friend”.
Hope that helps.
Gooner Chris said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:22 pm
i think the likes of Hoyte, Gibbs, Merida, Wilshere, Simpson etc need to be drafted in. These players might be young and unexperianced but they are good players and are hungry to make it as professional footballers! We have been lacking desire in this team recently, maybe it’s about time Wenger shook things up to show he means business!
Davo said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:23 pm

RickyGee: I take your points about Diaby bringing something different and being able to chip in with more goals, but I don’t think he’s the answer to any of our problems. He is also incredibly inconsistent and seems to me to lack grit and determination. Would rather see Ramsey get more chances in the middle. Vela up front and ANYONE else on the left – Vela, Gibbs, Ramsey, Wilshere…

William Gallas doesn’t get along with a player named ‘S’ in his autobiography. A national team player. Wonder who that could be? Hmm…(I know). This is childish and really they need to sort themselves out. This is getting Stupid and I’m tired of hearing it.
Petoria said this on November 21, 2008 at 7:38 pm
CEOT: whether he’s the answer to our problems or not is neither here nor there, he’s good enough to play and certainly good enough to be in the squad. He doesnt piss and moan, just gets on with his job when called upon and thats the kind of player I want in my squad.
His style strikes of a lack of determination and grit but the same could be said of Berbac**t, Huddlestone and even Kanu yet they are all quality players.
I agree that Ramsey should get more playing time but he isn’t ready for a starting birth. I watched Wales v Denmark on Weds rather than England and whilst he was very impressive, he was fucked after 60 mins.
I would also suggest that I’ve seen the likes of Gerrard, Rooney etc run around like headless chickens and yet make no contribution in certain games, yet the media and most fans think they’ve had a stormer because they run around a lot.
Proper ballers let the ball do the running

Diaby is very good “on the ball” & he’ll always do a couple of nice turns and flicks in a match but he cant tackle or pass to play in centrally. He doesnt have the engine too (always subbed round the 60 min mark). We seem to have too many of “not so good” players & I think its time to move afew of them on
Ash said this on November 21, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Gooner Chris, you do have free speech but you are stirring it bcuz firstly Gallas’s autobiography only came today so you couldnt know what was said exactly about Nasri. If you are taking it from his quotes from AP interview, he didnt mention any direct name, so stop shit stirring, people like you annoy me by openning your mouth without full details.
supergunner07 said this on November 21, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Goonerchriss are you sure its Nasri and not Benzema? The french press talked about it at the time saying that Benzema hardly talked or shared meals with anyone but Ribery (who Nasri doesnt speak to). Benzema was dropped for the later matches. I dont think Nasri has attitude problems he never caused any problems at Marseille
Ash said this on November 21, 2008 at 8:15 pm
RickyGee: Diaby doesn’t understand off the ball positioning. He also does not help his fullback by tracking back. Sure, we can say that Rooney and Gerrard are “over-rated” b/c of their overzealous running, but they are top players. And they motivate their teammates. Diaby isn’t Kaka or Berbatov by some measure.
He cannot play in midfield unless he takes up a central attacking spot. In that regard he is like Huddlestone. More importantly, he has demonstrated time and again that he can’t play on the left and is not trusted to play a more defensive role. We aren’t in need of a player who would require Cesc to do even more leg work or requires a DM in a five man midfield.
He should be loaned out or sold and left sided player should replace him. In midfield, I’d rather see the likes of Ramsey, Song, Wilshere and Merida given more chances. Up front, surely RvP, Vela and perhaps Barazite have more to offer.

Gooner Chris said this on November 21, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Gallas and Henry can be diva’s though. Henry wants players to worship him like Adebayor used to. You could see after he left us how players like Hleb, Cesc and even Ade came into thier own. You get this kind of divisions when you get two generations overlapping in a big squad
Gallas code language is hillarious though. Age 20 & “S”
Ash said this on November 21, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Well I can’t say I’m surprised that Gallas’ finally had a complete meltdown. He’s been under scrutiny for quite some time now and has suffered (sometimes unjust) criticism during the start of the season. And with his mental state being a little frail so to say, It was only a matter of time before he would break down.
I think Arsene has done the right thing though. It’s not fitting for a captain to come out and publicly critise his own team and talk about bust-ups that should be dealt with internal.
Not sure about Hoyte starting though, he’s talented but I don’t think he’s YET got what it takes to handle Robinho or SWP for that matter. However we don’t have anyone else to choose at this point so I really hope he has a good game.
And while Arsenes already tinkering with the team, why not experiment a bit more? I’d really like Wenger to be brave and finally play Vela, Ramsey and perhaps even Wilshere.
My team:
Almunia
Hoyte – Djourou – Silvestre – Clichy(c)
Wilshere – Diaby – Ramsey – Nasri
Van Persie – Vela

Whats that update all about from Myles?
UPDATE, FRIDAY 8.50 pm: The above is NOT what happened.
Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to describe what did happen.
So I’m only gonna say one thing : Stop crucifying William Gallas.
He always gave 100% for Arsenal in every minute of every game he played. He does not deserve to be crucified and ridiculed by people who know nothing about his life and character.
Ash said this on November 21, 2008 at 9:09 pm
CEOT: It was Kanu not Kaka I compared him with ;0)
I only want him to be a central attacking player, not a left winger or someone that has to do the tracking back for the FB. He’s a squad player that I think should play more. Under normal circustances, he wouldnt be a first choice for me but I would definitely keep him in the squad.
Again, to compare him with Song or Merida is unfair, they are completely different players. Agree on Ramsey as do a similar job and Rambos a better passer but again (and agreed, much like Diaby) cant last the pace.
Just another point and I hate to say it but I think Eboue was fantastic in the games he played this season and whilst nobody has said anything, I think maybe were missing him a little
RickyGee said this on November 21, 2008 at 9:12 pm

infact the whole french squad is fuucked up. Diaby does not sepak to ben afra because of a inccident when they were young. Now i hear benzema does not speak to anyone else apart from ribery. And that nasri does not get along with ribery it’s crazy.
Now they have brought there issues to THE ARSENAL.

Everybody fell out with Ben Arfa at Clairefontaine. I don’t think he would still hold a grudge from that long ago.

Blackstock said this on November 21, 2008 at 9:54 pm
good point gooner chris, also i find it tedious that gallas had a falling out with nasri becuase he sat on henry’s seat. The french sqaud certainly has a lot of inflated egos. What do you think?
Kevin said this on November 21, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Okay Gooner chris, enough is enough, you are passing on what u got from french media & passing it on people on this blog like it is 100% truth

WILLIAM GALLAS said this on November 21, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Sorry supergunner07, I will make sure I’ll pass what I say through you next time.
Definitely Kevin, it doesn’t help when players like Malouda are mouthing off in the press just like Gallas has done.
Gooner Chris said this on November 21, 2008 at 10:07 pm
was gallas sacked or did he resign? According to sky different sources are saying different things. Ferguson got rid of keane and van nistelrooy when they became disruptive.
Gallas has a history of trouble making, I’m still not sure why he left Chelsea? I think he plays to the cameras. Give the armband to someone who loves arsenal and has less ego like kolo or cesc.
j-hi said this on November 21, 2008 at 10:10 pm
j-hi, I’ll try and put it into context for you.
Wenger had a meeting with Gallas yesterday afternoon and talked to him about his comments etc. What followed was a mutual agreement between both Wenger and Gallas that he would be stripped of the captaincy and not be involved in tomorrow’s game against City or in midweek against Kiev.
Now it’s all coming out in the press.
Hope that helps.
Gooner Chris said this on November 21, 2008 at 10:13 pm
It’s speculation but almost every football-related website and TV channel is covering it, so I can’t see where it would be made up.

cheers gooner chris. Presumably sources close to gallas are claiming he resigned and those close to wenger are claiming he was sacked. Bit of a mess.
j-hi said this on November 21, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Yeah, I doubt that though, if anything, he will be sold in January.
Gooner Chris said this on November 21, 2008 at 10:27 pm
few things, its getting like the Arsenal on here- everyone fighting.
Wenger said after last weeks game that Sagna’s injury was serious and that he’d be out until December. Doesn’t matter what the Arsenal website says.
Even Wenger has come out this week and said that FIFA should check that players who pull out of internationals should not play the game after. It would be rather hypocritical for him to pull Sagna out of the France squad and then play him in the next game.
Seriiously, everyone has their own views and they should be respected- no one is right or wrong.
What we have to do as fans now more than ever is really get behind the team tomorrow and show that we’re in this together.
Those going to the game tomorrow, really get behind the players and sing loud and proud.
Ben said this on November 21, 2008 at 10:35 pm
also in the match preview on the arsenal site (how reliable is that site?) it says Adbeyor and Vela are likely to be involved despite long journeys for their internationals.
Ben said this on November 21, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Fully agree but the team are not playing like a united camp. But I guess redknapp shows how quickly the atmosphere can change…

lets hope all this contorversy has created a siege mentality at the club, where we prove the critics wrong.
Seriously though, there are a lot of young players who may be involved tomorrow, for their sake and Arsenals lets get behind them.

Gallas HAD to be stripped of his captaincy! I don’t give a ‘FCUK’ what people want to say….You have a contract that states rules and regulations and he’s broken them quite a few times. I would’ve dropped him in the summer! Oh and Hoyte is a much better option than Song at RB! And the person who asked about Vela and his red card…he did not try to go for the ball at all! He was very frustrated and lost his head and kicked out at the player. In the replays you can see it was intentional.
TH said this on November 21, 2008 at 11:35 pm
This is like the last exclusive you made up? The one about the starting lineup last Saturday that was wrong?
Right now, even the idea that Gallas has been dropped is all rumor, but if he was Wenger will draft in Song and Djourou in the back and put Silvestre on the right and Clichy on the left.
The closest Hoyte will get to the pitch is from his telly at home.
Timothy said this on November 21, 2008 at 11:39 pm
gallas should be sold in the transfer window or swapped for a taller defender as we need more height in our defence
also since walcott will be out does any1 else think Bischoff should be given a chance in the 1st team
goonerguy said this on November 21, 2008 at 11:50 pm
great news, it will be great to see the young boys prove a point. I will be happy to see them play, it doesn’t even matter if they lose or win
soccerfanbase.com said this on November 21, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Nasri and Ribery dont speak to each other even the Marseille chairman confirmed it. Anyway, its Gallas who seems to have something against young players, he openly critisiced Diaby and Walcott before and his Nasri story is a stirr in a cup. Nasri seems to have personality. Cant see Gallas playing for Arsenal again. Cant wait to see the reaction and togetherness of the team tomorrow

Anyone think We should exchange gallas to one of the milan clubs myabe AC MiLan and swap him for flamini? I can see Gallas joining inter milan coz mourinho rates him alot and italian teams like older players. I think Daniel van buyten is a good player but hes what we need hes 6ft5/6 very good in the air which is somrthing we lack and hes experienced
john said this on November 22, 2008 at 8:25 am
Gallas hasnt any balls ffs! He can’t accept the critism he’s facing and tries to deflect it off to his team mates. Arsene got this decision absolutely right. Can’t see him dislodging Djorou from now on. Arsenal to win 4-0! With Djourou scoring all 4!

i can see robinho putting the ball thru hoyte’s legs and doin endless stepovers…
why cant djourou play at right bk…im sure he would do much better
Phader said this on November 22, 2008 at 10:06 am
Does anyone think wenger is missing the influence of David Dein? He’s probably the only person with the balls to tell Arsene he is getting it wrong and the only person respected enough by wenger to be listened too.
j-hi said this on November 22, 2008 at 10:29 am
What I really dont get is the countless times people bitchin about the first team and how shit they are playing , people sayin bring in the youngsters there hungry to play then AW brings them in and people fuking moan !!! make your mind up !!!
HellsBalls said this on November 22, 2008 at 10:31 am
Its time to get behind the boys and get on with life. I for one think Gavin Hoyte will play out of his skin to try and get a first team place. Roll on the new generation with Cesc leading us. Wenger will get new players in January so calm down. Gallas has some points but problem is he aired these publicly which adams and vieira never would do.
I hope Wilshere, Ramsey, Gibbs and Lansbury will push these senior players and we have a good bunch of home grown talent to push on. We need these players as much as in the past we had die-hards like Keown, Adams, Davis, Parlour, Merson and even Ashley Cole until it went wrong.
Come on the Arsenal..I hope those at Eastlands scream all game behind our boys!!

Potential changes – Vela then Simpson [those 2 will add alot of pace] then Ramsey if things dont work bcuz i can visualize the predicted 1st 11 not playing enough at a high tempo.

Gallas = Winning Mentality, Experience, Passion,
RVP = Winning Mentality, Experience, Passion/Temper,
Fabregas = Winning Mentality, Experience, Passion,
Kolo Touré = Winning Mentality, Experience, Passion,
Adebayor = Winning Mentality, Experience, Passion,
Clichy & Sagna = Consistency, but I don’t see the winning mentality in them very quiet guys
I reckon these are our key players and the rest are youngsters who are inconsistent and are not able to carry the team. If you look at all these key players you can say that Gallas and Clichy having been performing well. They have been unlucky as well and had some bad games his season. But you expect if Gallas and Clichy don’t perform there are a whole lot of other who will. For me experience leads to consistency! Something which Wenger denies every single match. I can see why this situation happened, if your Manager is only focussed on the talents and doesn’t appreciate the experienced players (there’s no denying that!!) a certain environment is created which devided the young ones (always protected by Wenger) who have all the time of they’re life and the older players who are desperate for prizes and want to be on top. I think Wenger had the chance to correct this unbalance over the summer. If he would have added an experienced DEFENSIVE midfielder he would not only have pleased the experienced players at Arsenal but also added more depth to our team and pleased a whole lot of fans. I am not claiming that this would be an instant solution and we would win the title.
I don’t want to dwell too much on this subject I just want to say I hope the kids win the Carling Cup and the credit crunsh hits Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea so hard that they get points reducted

Fully expected a defeat today given the last 48 hours but now we have a few days to get all this sorted! (also a reminder which the media and doom-mongers will conveniently forget: tough away game and missing 6 first-teamers ignoring Gallas!)
In good news…Liverpool and Chelsea drop points in easy home games so we’ll only be one extra point off the top – even though I suspect many of us feel 3rd/4th is the best we can hope for.
Make Fab captain, beat Chelsea next week and get this season going!
Come on Arsenal!
