Exclusive – Arsenal’s Barazite Joins Derby County On Loan

Young Guns has learnt that Arsenal have allowed free-scoring Dutch forward Nacer Barazite to leave London for Championship outfit Derby County on loan.
Barazite has been strongly linked with a switch to Spanish link club UD Salamanca, but after they confirmed Håvard Nordtveit as their second loanee from Arsenal, Nacer has been given the chance to show of his tremendous talents in the Championship.
The Dutch flyer – already a Holland Under 19 International – scored 20 goals in all competitions for the Gunners Reserves & Youth sides last season, and scored two in as many games for the first team over pre-season.
Winning goals against Barnet and Huddersfield Town coupled with a strike away to Rushden has seen his stock rise, but the 18 year old will not be given the opportunity to play more Carling Cup football, however will gain crucial experience with the relegated Premiership side.
Paul Jewell admitted last year he would be keen to snap up any potential young starlets, and after jumping the queue ahead of the likes of Birmingham and Norwich – Derby have signed arguably the most exciting young forward in the country.
The elegant Dutchman left London this afternoon to agree personal terms ahead of the switch, with the fleet footed winger hoping to help County back into the Premiership during the coming season.

watch him score 25+ goals this season if he stays fit… i bet my foot on it!!!

Nacer can fire them to promotion

very very happy about this one, i was dissappointed wen i heard he might go on loan to salmanca, cause i thought it would have been counter productive, but this loan i think could help him improve, physically and getting used to the pressure of 1st football. plus i think we get to see and hear about him more if stays here. hope we get drawn against derby in the cc. keep up the good work J.Sanderson

Interesting when Derby are hardly short of strikers: Nathan Ellington, Rob Hulse, Tito Villa, Liam Dickenson, Mile Sterjovski, Aleksander Prijovic and Paris Simmons!
Paul Jewell must believe barazite is the real deal to take him on.

I think hes the kind of player they need atm and i hope he does well. Lets face it…its pretty likely he will if he plays at the same level he was last season for the Reserves and over the summer.
Anyway, good move for him and good move for Derby aswell.

gr8 bit of business by derby i reckon! i live in derby at the moment and have appalled by some of the quality of derby this season(not to mention last season) keithmansfield, dickinson, sterjovski, prijokovic mostly play midfield but can play up front and simons is miles away from the first team! so his quality is desperatly needed and welcomed
elliot said this on August 18, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Wow JS this is some exclusive news, thanks! I’ve always thought this boy is special since we started seeing him in the reserves. If Jewell gives him some games (which I think he will – they can’t be blind to that amount of talent), he’ll do a Bendtner, come back and fight for a first-team place. Good luck Nacer!
Lou said this on August 18, 2008 at 10:19 pm
I think fans are being ridiculously over optimistic – there is a HUGE jump between reserve and 1st team football. I think Nacer, rather than the Derby fans will be in for a huge shock. The amount of tackles flying in will intimidate him and all I hope for is that he comes back in one piece and still able to function. No doubt about his talent, but will his specific talents of technique have a platfrom to shine?
There have been some successes – Bendtner came back a better player, as did the like of Cashley and even though they didnt make it the likes of Bentley, Pennant and Upson benefitted from a loan. However for the likes of Djourou, Lupoli and Merida to an extent, it backfired. Im keeing my fingers crossed but not expecting miracles.

Since he’s been at Arsenal Nacer has never failed to impress when I’ve seen him play and he’s the sort of guy who will really benefit from a season in the Championshp.
Having said that I don’t think he’ll play as striker for us, more likely wide midfield in our set up which is really an inside forward position rather than a winger.
EiN said this on August 18, 2008 at 10:56 pm
great news ! i hope he does well.
now i wonder what happens with randall and lansbury since ramsey & wilshere look better/more promising than them, and it sucks that merida got sent out on loan, it looks like he’ll leave in future(i hope not).
good luck nacer !

We are stockpiling in 1st team players…these players are too good for the reserves.
I’m glad Fran Merida is staying though. I’m sure he’ll be starting next to Ramsey in the central midfield for the Carling Cup matches…that’s where he’ll have to take his chance.

I think this is good news for us (Derby). Lupoli was great for us in his loan 2 seasons ago, and I feel another skillfull attacking player who has a great finishing ability will be a good addition once again.
I disagree with Steve that Lupoli’s loan move backfired, You knew his contract was up at the end of the season, if anything its Arsenals fault not to tie him down to a longer deal, or offer him better.
Derby have 3 main Strikers at the moment in Ellington, Hulse and Villa. Our young singing from Stockport Dickinson’s fourth but theres been rumours hes not ready and hes to be loaned out so he doesn’t lose confidence from not playing. So a strong fourth player who can add a bit of magic will be helpfull.
If he takes his chance and scores goals, he will be kept in the team by Jewell.

I hope your wrong Oz as i rate Merida the highest of our youngsters barring maybe Vela. Great article again JS. Will Barazites loan be for 6 months so we can bring him back if hes doing really well? Also do u have any idea if Merida may be going back on loan?

Your wrong Oz…have you not read the report on Arsenal.com.
Merida is staying as he thinks he’ll make it with us and play this season. Hope it turns out like that.

@ Jay
the Article on the Arsenal website, states that Merida wants to stay, but its up to the manager. the deal for him to go out on loan to a Spanish team is already in place, but he’s waiting to speak to Wenger

Our whole Carling Cup team is going out on loan. At this rate we’ll have to field regulars … or the ladies team 9 no offence meant to the ladies who are a very talented bunch now being poached by the Women’s MLS in the states.)

Cant agree with that. Djourou benefitted from the loan move, even though he didnt perform as well as he would have wanted and probably expected, not that it was all his fault mind. Lupoli didnt, but there again i’ve been watching past reserve games and he was never that incredible, had a nack of being in the right place at the right time and a good finish, but little else. Did ok on loan but his career hasnt taken off since then. Although its looking up for him a bit now.
As for Merida, the loan move did him loads of good and he performaed brilliantly, endearing himself to the Socedade fans. 12 games, 6 assists and 1 goal. Cant rly complain about that, no injuries and came back an improved player.
The loan move bar a terrible injury can only do Barazite good, as it can for any player between the age of 17 and 21 who are physically ready to play first team football at a high level, which the championship is.

Best of luck to Barazite at Derby , i think a good deal by Jewel . I now believe that the arsenal youngsters have been divided into three tiers :
a) Those who are at the fringes of first team action and will probably play in the carling cup (Djourou , Bendtner , Vela , Traore , Fabianski , Ramsay , Wilshere , Bischoff etc.)
b) Those who are too good for the reserve football and go out on loan to come back and challenge for a first team birth ( Barazite , Nordveit , Gibbs , Pedro Bothelo , Gilbert and Merida)
c) Those who will play in U-18s and reserves in the current season (Coquelin , Ogogo , Steer , Watt , Bartley , thomas , hoyte etc )
Then there are some anomalys i.e Randall ( has been on the fringes but will he go out on loan or stay) , Lansbury ( not really shone through thid pre-season although will most probably stay with the reserves) , Rui Fonte ( will stay with the reserves but a miassive year for him) , Jay Simpson ( with so many strikers infront of him , i am afraid the writing maybe on the wall for him)
Well i think thats the lot sorted out with a few concluding points :
a) Wenger will have plans for all of them i am sure , so things can change
b) The loanees list indicates the reserve first team players will play in the carling cup to improve fitness , sharpness.
c) Ofcourse new signings can happen as well
I would like J , to give us an update post regarding at loans , prospects and plans of all these young guns at the end of the transfer window.
Ali said this on August 19, 2008 at 5:48 am
Nacer Barazite the most exiting young forward in the country i would not go that far mate because i could name at least three young strikers who are bigger talents than he is and they are Manchester Uniteds Danny Welbeck, Manchester City’s Daniel Sturridge, Crystal Palace’s Victor Moses and Aston Villa striker Nathan Delfouneso IMO

Keep up the good work Sanderson

I have recently just found this site but from now on intend to update you all with any breaking news regarding the reserves but inparticular the younger players.
Thanks all, just wanted to introduce myself

kent paul: he said ‘arguably’ the most exciting young forward in the country. And on ‘young guns’, I think you’ll find a couple people willing to dispute you.
Welbeck is a future Sunderland player.
Sturridge’s career is gonna be fucked by Thaksin ruining the club, will be sold to any bidder in January (Middlesbrough?) and stay there not getting the service he’d like for the rest of his career.
Delfouneso looks good. Him and Gabby could be lethal in a couple years.
But Barazite’s the second coming of Bergkamp! That’s quite the difference in class! Ok, he might get injured and ruin his career but that’s the same for everyone. He knows a beautiful pass, can read the game correctly, always knows where to move, obviously knows where the goal is (and I’ll think we’ll see a couple wonder goals if he’s given a bit of room at Derby). There is one thing completely lacking from his game but it’s something missing from the majority of reserves in first team experience and the strength to be playing professional football every week. Once he gets that he’ll definitely be competeting with Bendtner and Vela.

[...] Young Guns has an exclusive that Derby County are set to sign one of my favourite prospects at Arsenal, Nacer Barazite on a season-long loan deal. My first impressions were good. I personally didn’t want Nacer to be sent to Spain for a season, I felt he would gain more from playing in the Championship. His situation is different to that of Nordtveit, Spanish football is attacking minded and the speed is good to test a defender. As a striker, Barazite will not come up against many physical defenders in Spain, something he will encounter often if he makes it into Arsenal’s first team. [...]

Jay said this on August 19, 2008 at 9:57 am
Barazite is one of the most exciting young forwards in the country, can you really see the likes of Sturridge playing week in week out for the likes of Man U successfully? Barazite has a good touch, good vision, a good shot but he needs to improve physically and that’s easier to do than improve the other aspects of his game. He’s almost the opposite of Adebayor, his game relies on intelligence rather than power and when you’ve got skills like that, you’ve got everything needed to succeed.
Hopefully Barazite can play every week because he’s able to play on the wings, as a second striker and as the main man. Your news is mostly correct J but I’m gonna wait ’till it’s announced on the Arsenal website (might take a while).
