Kerrea Gilbert Joins Leicester On Season Long Loan

Arsenal defender Kerrea Gilbert has joined League One side Leicester City on a season long loan this afternoon.
The 21 year old showed early promise with the Gunners, but lost his way following loan spells at both Cardiff City and Southend United. Questions over Kerrea’s attitude and professionalism have been raised, but City have decided to take a gamble on the prospect, who will look to emulate Jay Simpson’s accomplishments in League one last year.
Speaking to the clubs official website, Gilbert admitted his excitement of joining the Foxes, citing regular first team football as a key reason for his switch.
“I’m delighted to be here and would like to thank the manager for giving me the chance to impress and play regular first-team football. “I have worked with the gaffer before at England Youth level and have got nothing but praise for him.
“He is always prepared to give you a chance and I am determined not to let him down. I also know Levi Porter and he has been impressed with the work ethic the new manager has brought to the club.
“I am excited to be here. The facilities are of Premier League quality and I am keen to get started and help Leicester City bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking.”
New manager Nigel Pearson has also had his say on Gilbert’s signing, and only had praise for the Hammersmith born youngster.
“I have worked with Kerrea before and he is a fighter and a winner.”
“He is strong in the tackle and athletic and we will only benefit from his arrival. I am looking forward to working with him on the training ground.”
Although the loan is just for one campaign, should Leicester win promotion back to the Championship, they look certain to snap up the out of favour youngster.
You will be able to follow Kerrea’s progress throughout the season right here on Young Guns.

Eh, i hate to say it but its probably just a last ditch attempt to get his value up. He’ll leave next January or the end of the season, this is just Wenger’s way of making sure we get a good price for him.
Johnny Maverik said this on July 10, 2008 at 1:58 pm
he better behave himself this time, i still think he has already blown his chances of making it @ arsenal. Good performance & arsenal can sell him on for good price.

I always thought the man had talent. Hopefully he sorts himself out cos i think the boy has lots of potential – certainly in my humble opinion he offers more than Hoyte (other than the attitude, which clearly stinks!)
PLJ said this on July 10, 2008 at 2:03 pm
what happened to him first he goes to cardiff in the championship and then down to league 1 with southend and now back to league 1 is he not supposed to improve and play in better leagues

This surely has to be last chance saloon for Gilbert, lets hope he makes the best of it!

I know Nigel Pearson, if Kerrea is good enough he will play, hes not a manager that pics on reputation, but on hard work and ability.

Nice article J. I have a quesiton though. If his attitude and professionalism were not rubbish could he have had a future at Arsenal? I do not expect him to challenge Sagna but could he have replaced hoyte?
Goonie said this on July 10, 2008 at 2:10 pm
his attitude stinks spike
cescy said this on July 10, 2008 at 2:13 pm
He showed early promise yes, but then lost his way which is really dissapointing. When he played against Wigan at the Emirates he was outstanding, it all went downhill from there.
Good luck to the lad, but i dont see him coming back here.
Who knows though!

hay J i have only one Q
how was Today’s training? do you have any pictures JS
Abnet arsenal said this on July 10, 2008 at 2:22 pm
I doubt he will come back either. There’s no need to write off a player just coz he is deemed surplus to requirements.

According to Sky sports news players like Hleb and Adebayor were back today. Arsenal.com should put some pictures up soon.

Abnet arsenal said this on July 10, 2008 at 2:31 pm
J do you mean when he played against Wigan at Highbury and set up Henry for that header?
Hopefully he will excel at Leicster because he is a good player and although he may have a bad attitude he also seems to have an attitude that is fiercly competitive which can make up for other flaws in his game.
Chris said this on July 10, 2008 at 2:33 pm
cmon kerrea if you make it ill be happy. just have a good season at leacister and come back a new improved player who has impressed, then come and take hoytes place, and then really train hard to try and push sagna for a place in the team. which would be realllyyyyyyyy hard but you know, anything is possible, so dont write him off just yet you guys!!!

Why does Arsene Wengerv keep on loaning Kerrea Gilbert out, why not just sell him IMO
Kent paul said this on July 10, 2008 at 3:40 pm
because hes not bad as a right back, hes got everything to succeed just not the right attitude.
gunner4life said this on July 10, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Well Kerrea better hope he changes soon, by the way we might need a good cover for Sagna not Toure ( who is better in the centre)
Hunterlaar just not good enough for me what you think JS
By the way what is your first name?
pumpd said this on July 10, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Apparently he really impressed during the first half of his spell @ Cardiff. Then seemed to nearly throw his career away with “personal problems” allegedly.
A shame as he really impressed me when he made appearences for Arsenal. I hope he turns it around. He is still young, im sure if he works hard he can achieve many things in the game.

Eboue is great cover for right-back and i dont think hes guna b leaving this summer.
Johnny Maverik said this on July 10, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Gilbert is rubbish we dont need players like him messing about. eboue is world class and can play on the right all season as far as im concerned. top class.

“Eboue world class are you on the crack pipe mate”
At right back hes not far off world class to be honest, at right midfeild hes avarage, but im still convinced thats due to mental blocks rather than a lack of ability. Dont get me wrong, next season Sagna who is world class and Walcott who can become world class (probably alot quicker than many of us think if hes given a proper run in the first 11) should be our right sided duo, but Eboue is a valuable player and if he is dropped he’ll just come back stronger and better and fight to prove his talent.
