Werder Bremen Confirm Amaury Bischoff Departure

German outfit SV Werder Bremen have confirmed this morning that they have released midfielder Amaury Bischoff, ahead of his proposed free transfer to Arsenal.
The 21 year old Portugal Under 20 International spent last week in talks with Gunners officials, and is expected to put pen-to-paper with the Gunners in the next hours.
Speaking with Bremen’s official website, Bischoff issued the following statement
“Bremen was superb, but Arsenal is a huge opportunity for me,”
“Wenger has known me since my time at Strasbourg and believes in my quality. He trusts me to be in the first team.
“Wenger has not put me under any pressure. He said, ‘Take all the time you need’.”
Werder’s Managing Director Klaus-Dieter Fischer also spoke about Amaury’s departure, and whilst the club are disappointed to lose a top talent, they accept his choice to move to London
“We would be very happy to keep Amaury. But he has decided to set up to a new challenge. We wish him well and thank him for the past three years,”
Bischoffjoined from Racing Strasbourg in 2005, but a series of thigh injuries has hampered his progress, limiting him to just a handful of substitute appearances. During the three season spent in Germany, he played 62 games for Bremen Reserves, scoring on 6 occasions.
He has recently recovered from more thigh problems, and admits he is aiming to play for the Reserves to build up his fitness, before mounting a serious challenge on the first team.
“I have only just come back from a long spell out injured, so I expect to play in the reserves to get my form back, “
Amaury is a central midfielder by trade, who can also play on the right hand side. Read more on him in our exclusive fan interview Here.

Well that’s it for our transfers guys, this is the last one?!!
Who is satisfied with these new signings?!!
Mouhsin said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:09 am
J, not that i doubt your integerity or whatever but please also paste links when you put up quotes, especially when its regarding transfer news. Anyhow, just wondering what are the general views on vito (GK) as he’s our reserve GK now
Ali said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:09 am
we stil need a CB and a World Class striker, (which RVP is) but his fitness will always be in doubt, if not now then by Jan we would need one, other then that a replacement for eboue, maybe someone in reserves will make the step up moushin
Ali said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:11 am
i think our last transfer will be marcos senna becuase he has been linked with us so many times now in the last week. plus pascal cygan(senderos’s idol) also said he heard asrenal were interested in him. senna will be our last signing along with ramsey nasri and bischoff, if adebayor doesnt leave.
gunner4life said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:13 am
J. Why are we buying this guy – i agree with a lot of the comments over the past few days about the amount of young mid fielders at the club. I would much rather see Barazite & Lanesbury blooded. This also adds a small bit of confusion to the roles of Diaby and new boy Ramsey. What do you think?
chazwazza said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:13 am
J, sorry mate just saw the link on skysports.

Wow. The excitement is unbearable. Chels sign Deco, Spurs sign Modric and we get this injury prone crock of shit from Werder B’s reserve team.

are we getting bischoff for free then if he has been released???
gunner4life said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:16 am
i agree dave, thats why i think totenham will finish above liverpool next season, their signings have been class. where rafa benitez is starting his scouting business now.

Dave, mate your one hell of an opitmist, isn’t eh?
yes good question gunner4life, i would think he’s for free

erm when do you lot believe the transfer of samir nasri will happen??
C.Harding said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:17 am
Sorry, I am sure he could possible be half decent if ever fit.
WTF! A 21 year old CM??? Who NEVER broke into the bremen 1st team?
Cheapskate, small minded, piss poor signing!
Again, I apologise for this, but this is a sick fooking joke!
The Bisch said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:19 am
We have been linked with many big players for years but the chance that we sign a player like Senna, Villa, Silva, Raul Albiol are next to none. I appreciate your optimism but this is it for us. He’s gonna make Adebayor stay, maybe even Hleb cause no one wants him anymore. I hope Barazite will get his breakthrough next season…
We’re going to win the title with a squad avarage age of 23
and ofcourse with sexy football!!

Don’t really think that we need this guy to be honest!
We are buying a plyer who admits that he is looking to play in the reservs and then the first team, we already have midfielders that are doing exactly the same, lansbury, Ramsey, Diaby etc the list could go on. What is the point in getting this guy in?? I really don’t see it!
Also i saw that Walcott has now been given the number 14 shirt! Have to be happy with that
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:21 am
We will more than likely bring in a vetren keeper to be 3rd choice before the start of the season,Just like when we brought in Mart Poom.Mannoe is a woeful keeper,At least one massive clanger a game,Even managed to fail a trail with a lower league Scotish team.
The Daddy said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:22 am
Looks like the double signing of Nasri and Bischoff is likely to happen then. Still dont see why we are getting this guy but i trust Arsene’s scouting, Centre midfield is looking amazingly full now both in first team and reserves.
First team: Cesc, Diaby, Gilberto, Denilson, Merida, Nasri (as he can play there).
Reserves: Bischoff,Conquelin,Lansbury,Randall.
JS do you see Bischoff playing for the reserves this season and Arsenal playing either Diaby or Gilberto alongside Cesc?
JohnV said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:22 am
Great news. Another pre-pubecent injury prone periphery player from an average team. Just what we needed from our exorbitant season ticket fees. I’m so excited for next season and would like to personally thank the club for charging me just 1200 quid for the pleasure.

The transfer of Nasri will happen according to a source in France when the sun shines in a southwesterly direction and the temperature is between 19c-21c on a day that begine with a half moon and a cloud like formation with a similar shape to a mince pie. Apparently my sources in France have confirmed this with a French newspaper and the deal is 99.99999999999888877% complete and we are just waiting for the mince pie cloud formation to announce the transfer.
Dave said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:23 am

Ali said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:24 am
Well… I don’t know Bischoff, but if Wenger would like that he come to Arsenal, that’s okay.
The first part of double signing is okay, but what the siutation with Nasri? I would be satisfied if the OM would admit Nasri’s leaving.
Attila said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:25 am
Dave hahaha! Love it
I believe that i can see this mince pie formation now but i did not see a half moon this morning, do you think that this could hamper the entire deal??!!
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:26 am
Listen, my source in France says the Nasri deal wont happen until there is a mince pie cloud formation. Just be patient.
Dave said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:26 am
I heared he wasnt even on a professional contract. They have released him, meaning he would be free.
They released him, so i dont think we would have to pay any compensation either.
Listen guys, i didnt want him either, but he is all but an Arsenal player, so he gets my support!
J.Sanderson said this on July 1, 2008 at 9:26 am

I think this what arsene wneger has been waiting for a winger, he sounds like a winger, good shooting abilities, very fast, great passer and he can tackle meaning he can track back. Maybe he might play wing and we neeed wingers desperatley as it looks certain hleb is leaving-and hes hard to replace. Maybe he like franck ribery. Next bobby pires?

In European football young players do not get as many options as they do in England. Some of the Barca B boys like Pedrito and Sanchez and 21-22 and only now being pushed into the first team.

This has to be some kind of joke… What the hell is this signing? What does it mean to players like Lansbury Usually we wait a while until players get injured at Arsenal, like Rosicky or Diaby. Now we’ve decided to move a step forward and sign players who are already injury prone (Nasri is the same). Next up- sending scouts to sports clinic around Europe.
Seriously, who the hell is this guy, and if he’s so good, how come he has ONE starting line-up appearance for Bremen in THREE years?! Where does it put new boy Ramsay? Are we showing the door yet again to some of our young players who wouldn’t get their chance, like Lansbury?
If this is what AW is promising for the starting season for Arsenal fans, we can’t be too excited. This is NOT strengthening our side, sorry.

this is not really the signing we need. another reserve midfielder is the last thing we need. if wenger is relying on him to win us the title and the CL then we are going to be very disappointed. Either that or wenger has just pulled off the most amazing coup ever. I go for the former. I sincerely hope wenger has other irons in the fire.

To be fair i am not blaming the kid for being injured and not playing much, that probably isn’t his fault but the reason i don’t like it is cos it just looks like he doesn’t actually trust the youth that we have coming through! If he did then why not give them the chance instead of this guy who looks like he will play a game and then be in with our new physio with abroken nail or summit! What is the point in buying someone who is injury prone as cover for injury prone people??!!??
Instead why don’t we just give our youngsters (who are about 19 now anyway) the chance!
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:00 am
Press Conference announced. Our new signing will be paraded to the press at Stoke Mandeville hospital later today.
Dave said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:00 am
That is nepotism of the highest order. I suspect Arsene is related to this guy through some distant cousin or other, else how on earth will he sign another injury prone player as a replacement for a very important role.
It has to be said, it seems, Wenger has not got any ambition or desire to win the champions league, and this is demonstrated by the kind of signings he makes.
The long suffering Arsenal fans exercise patience and restraint waiting on these inexperienced and injury prone players to recover or gain premiership experience, they leave for pastures new when we need them most after one explosive season.
Ed Atom said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:01 am
On alighter note, Walcott is officially the new Terry Henry after being given the number 14 shirt!
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:02 am
At the end of the day I think AW is taking a punt on a player who he is signing on a free. He won’t make much of an impact on the first team and I’m sure he will bring in other players.
The truly odd thing is, as J mentioned, when the hell did Arsenal scouts watch him considering his injury record??
Sniff said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:04 am
Anyone that slates wenger for any signing of an unknown should remember the likes of petit, viera, toure etc.Ok so he does buy some duds but when its not costing us nothing the gamble isnt high so stop the nagitivity!
gunnerbelieve said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:05 am
gunnerbelieve, it is not that he is a relatively unknown player, it is more a question of his injuries and the position he plays. Does a player such as this add much to the squad?
Sniff said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:11 am
I cannot believe the negativity on here. A few years ago Wenger arranged the purchase of anothher young midfielder he had watched for a few years and remained interested in even though he wasn’t in the first team of his current club.
This lad’s name was Patrick Vieira, he became a half-decent player from memory.
Gee Dubya said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:13 am
Not the fact that he’s a free its the fact he will be in direct competition for Merida, lansbury and Randall. 3 players who have immense talent. So why is AW even bothering with this player?
Dave said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:14 am
And he isn’t costing us nothing, we are paying him wages that (this remains to be seen) could be better spent elsewhere! I agree every now and then you need to take a punt on things from time to time but not on someone who is injury prone!
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:15 am
Viera, Petit, Toure etc. were not injury prone players. When you are taking a punt on an unknown player, better an injury free player than an injury prone player. At the end of the day, we already have a team full of them.
I am just sick and tired of mediocrity, and the FACT that we are slowly becoming the 2nd or perhaps 3rd best team in London.
Ed Atom said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:17 am
okay we are probably going to pay this guy about 15-20 grand a week. that could have easily been added to flamini’s or adebayors in demand contract, which could hav changed everything. so you know he has got to be something special
gunner4life said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:19 am
Remember though guys this guy isnt a signing for our first team hes like the earlier signings of Conquelin and Oguzhan Özyakup. That means that hes not being bought to play in the first team and we dont really need a CM as we have enough cover there for sure. I expect this guy will probably be sold on like Larsson and Muamba were an as we are getting him on a free could be a good bit of business.

I would suggest that Wenger knew all about Bischoff when he was at Strasbourg. Don’t people realise how as a young player from the Alsace region (Arsene grew up there), Arsene would no doubt find it pretty easy to keep up to date with how he was developing. No doubt he is good friends with the coaches there and probably asks friends about Strasbourg when/if he goes him for Christmas…
Ethan said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:22 am
We are meant to be stating our intent for the title this season yes?
We have not even signed one player who we assume will be first team yet!
Nasri will be but thats when he signs maybe even if he signs! I would have liked us not necessarily to spend big amounts but get more experience. if this bloke and Nasri sign we would have got 3 players with the oldest being what 21! We need more experience. I would have rather got Sneijder than Nasri and would rather have got a DM than an injury prone midfielder/winger/wherever it is that he plays!
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:23 am
I am becoming so disillusioned at the moment, its simple, Sell Gallas, Senderos,Gilberto, Hleb, Eboue, sign Zapata, Albiol, Yaya Toure and maybe another young winger then job done, we would win the title with the below team and squad, Albiol can also cover right back and so can Djourou and Song if needed so maybe get rid of Hoyte too for 4 million. Give the captaincy to Cesc or Toure, real arsenal people that love the club and who the fans love and see as committed and loyal.
Albiol is basically a utility player that can play along the defence and also holding midfield.
Sales = Gallas (5) Senderos (4) Hleb (12) Eboue (4) Hoyte (4) Gilberto (1) 30 million
Purchases = Zapata (15) Albiol (6) Yaya (8) 29 million
Almunia
Sagna
Zapata
Toure
Clichy
Nasri
Toure
Fabregas
Rosicky
Adebayor
RVP
Albiol,Denilson,Ramsey,Vela,Walcott,Eduardo,Diaby,Djourou,Bendtner,Walcott,Song,Fabianski
If we did this we would win the league..

People say about supposed unknowns like Petit,Vieira and Flamini but if you actually follow European football they were all known, Petit had french caps before us, Vieira was Cannes Captain and bought by AC Milan before being 20 Flamini played in a UEFA cup final and was Marseille first team before 20 , the point being that I have’nt even heard of this chump, just like I had’nt heard of Stefan Malz and Alberto Mendez Rodriquez and Tomas Dailivecius, waste of time signing this guy I’d rather play Randall, if it turns out good then I’ll happily come back on here and offer to suck Wenger off but I just don’t see it to be honest.

This is classic Wenger. He’s been tracking that lad since his time at Strasbourg. Sure he’s not likely to become a world class player but could be become a decent backup? Maybe. No way to lose on this one considering he’s a free!
Paul said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:43 am
A lot is made of Bischoff only playing reserve team football. But remember the league system on the continent is different. Spainish and German reserve teams play in the league and cups, so it is similar to us loaning someone to a Championship or League One side – at the same time being able to keep an eye on the training.
Internet Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:44 am
Exactly David! You can say the same about Diogo, Zapata, Gomez. These guys have already made their mark at their clubs and in their league. But we have to admit that Wenger is masterfull in giving a player confidence, letting him see ,the player that he cane become and the things he can achieve. He’s the best guidance a player can get when he wants to make it to the top.
I agree with people saying Bischoff would be taking up a place in the reserves which means some other talent will nog get the chance to prove himself.
If he’s free than disregard the following comment
If we have to pay 3 million for him I would say that money should be used to upgrade Adebayor salary. Just give him the money, he’s worth it. There’s no one like him, he can only get better and his style of play fits our system.

Still doesnt make sense to me, buy a player with next to no first team experiance who had a terrible injury record and plays in our most congested position other than the forward positions which is central attacking midfield.
If hes very good at playing on both wings it makes slight sense, hes just a squad depthener, a Wiltord or an Edu, but so far ive just seen, “can also play on the right hand side”, not “is bloody amazing at bombing down either wing”…which is more what we want.
Johnny Maverik said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:47 am
But the BBC have nothing on the transfer and Arsenal.com havent comfirmed it, so until then i dont believe anything.
Johnny Maverik said this on July 1, 2008 at 10:48 am
I really dont see the point in this. Hes always injured and couldnt even break into Bremens first team. ANOTHER
midfielder! I’m not even English and i would rather have Randall (who really really impressed me vs Sunderland) or Lansbury given a chance, they’re probly better than this dude anyway. Pointless signing and I highly doubt he will become a regular for Arsenal. We also have Diaby, Denislon, and song who can play CM. For once i would like wenger not to sign a CM and just bloody well play Song in Flaminis position, hes bloody good aswell – he can pass, tackle and is powerful and big! just give him chance at least!
And i also just realised than Robin van Persie didnt get injured at Euro 08, quite a miricle!
My team for next year:
Almunia
Sagna – Toure – Gallas – Clichy
Walcott – Cesc – Song – Nasri
-RvP – Bendtner
SUBS: Fabianski, Diaby, Senderos, Barazite, Ramsey, Rosicky, Vela.
That is to start the season, Later on i expect Dudu to start with RvP and Rosicky will eventually regain full fitness (meaining he can last 90 mins) and take up the position on the right).
I’m really excited for next season and cant wait to see vela, Ramsey etc.

To Matt and all the people who are joking about van Persie and his injuries. van Persie is out of this world, he is a magic! he had some bad luck last 2 seasons but he will be there next season. He will be a contender for player of the season in the EPL. Have faith, his injuries were bad luck and when he was injured he was under pressure to get back soon.
Next season’s star players for Arsenal:
Clichy, Fabregas, van Persie.
Next season’s revelation for Arsenal:
Nasri, Rosicky, Song
Teenage sensation:
Barazite

the other thing about nasri signing (if he signs), is i think he will take the best part of a season to settle in and find consistent form.
so even with his signing, i believe we are going backwards. especially if adebayor (twat) and hleb (twat) go.

You’re probably a long Arsenal fan than me cause i’ve been Arsenal fan since Bergkamp signed. But you know what you say is BS. We aren’t gonna sign anymore and I am at peace with it. Some of you guys are so naive its untrue. You suggest we should buy this player and that player and will be guarenteed success. What you dont seem to realise that in reality rather than on a FIFA or manager game players may not want to move and also clubs may be unwilling to sell there best players. Its not as easy as deciding oh yeh lets sign Raul Albiol, 1stly he may not want to move from Spain, secondly Valencia may not wish to sell him or may try and charge a stupid price and 3rdly the player may not wish to be in and out of the team.
JohnV said this on July 1, 2008 at 11:59 am
Arsenal Tom – what makes you think Villa is any better than Eduardo? Eduardo is just as good a finisher, and I think his buildup play is actually better than Villa. Villa might be a ‘glitzy’ transfer, but I don’t think he will really add more to what we have.

“Hello papa, er I wondering if it is at all possible we can announce the Nasri signing today?”#
“I told you Ken, we will contact you when we feel it necessary”
“But Papa its now July 1st and you promised”
“Ken your getting on my tits. You and your small club just need to be patient. We will dictate to you, now please go away little man.”
“OK Papa sir but please promise to let us know if and when we can announce it to our mug fans. Pleaseeeeeeeeeee Papa”.

People on here are mental. You’d really think they’ve never known the game of football before posting. “Sell half our team, and buy a new”, “We are supposed to be stating our intent, how dare one of our signings be this guy” etc. Because when Utd bought Dong Fangzhuo you know every Utd fan thought “but why? Ferguson is gonna have him ruin the team and we will get relegated” and every other team in the Premiership thought “Well, what a rubbish signing, that club is now as rubbish as Dong and we will beat them way too easily.”
Samuel said this on July 1, 2008 at 12:16 pm
The Raul Albiol information is based on comments attributed to the player and his agent, also Guillerme reported it and Valencia are known to be selling a few players this year as they are broke so firstly he’d be interested secondly Valencia ain’t got much choice with a decent offer and Thirdly you obviously tell the player if he fights for his place and plays well then he will be first choice like he would be, if he does’nt then fancy it then he was’nt good enough for us anyway, its not about suggesting Football Manager type signings, the people I mentioned are very getable in todays market and with our budget
David said this on July 1, 2008 at 12:19 pm
lol you really cant tell with Nasri. I think he’s due to join our pre-season at 21 or 22 am not sure so it could well drag on untill then. We cant seem to tie up big moves quickly enough like Barca, Madrid, United and Chelsea which is worrying as someone said above. We normally do our business at the closing end of the transfer window: Diarra, Denilson, Baptista, Gallas. I blame Wenger for raising our expectation with his “cheque book” and ” fans will be assured in 2-3 weeks” statements but signings are not as easy as fans think

Matt said this on July 1, 2008 at 12:29 pm
So I seem to be the only one here who plays football manager the Wenger way, i.e. buy the 10 best academy kids every year and become great doing it that way?
Moushin: I was half-joking friend. Personally, I think we sign a similar amount to last year (4 first teamers [Sagna, Eduardo, Wookash, Diarra = Defender, Nasri, Bischoff, maybe-an-Ade-replacement?/Vela-depending-on-how-you-look-at-it], a handful of kids) and the natural progress will be just as significant us as all worrying about signings. But then I’m also pretty certain Hleb will stay, and maybe Ade too (just out of AW stubborness more than anything).
It’s just people are getting angry at each other over nothing. We might get a reserve player on the free: FITE! Calm, we are all Arsenal fans, have a cuppa and just wait for real football to go mental over. If you are giving yourself a hernia over Eric Bischoff, you know that maybe you need to take a little silly season break.
Samuel said this on July 1, 2008 at 12:29 pm
I thin he is a poor signing but as JS said at the start of this comments bit he will be an Arsenal player so i will give him a chance.
Adebayor wants to leave otherwise he would have just said to the press Fuk off i am stayin! that goes for Hleb too so even if they do stay there is no way that i will be singing their name just because they have suddenly decided that they want to stay at Arsenal. I wouldn’t have minded about Adebayor cos he did at the start talk all the shit bout wantin to stay blah blah but now to say oh i think i am worth what Henry was because of one season what a complete prick, does he not know that he is only the player he is because of Wenger and the players that he has around him! Can’t be bothered with players that think they are better than they actually are, any other striker (within reason) put in his position last season would have scored at least the same amount of goals simple as!
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Guys signing Bischoff may not be as risky as you guyz think. After all, one of the best centerbacks in the premier league – Christopher Samba – was playing for Hertha Berlin reserves before he moved to Blackburn. Perhaps playing reserve team football in Germany is not as bad as you all think lol. Let’s not forget all the seemingly obscure signings Wenger has made recently that have turned out to be gems as you all have alluded to (add that Denilson playing for Sao Paolo reserves).

sorry for upsetting you david, I’m afraid when you come on here and act like there is an easy option of just shipping out 4 or 5 players and just ‘getting’ a few others, it makes you sound like one of the masses who think football management is as easy as it is on the computer game. The point I am making is that it is pointless to blab on about quick fixes…it’s not as easy as that. It’s pretty clear that Arsene (the most successful manager Arsenal has ever had and a guy who is respected throughout the football world) has a long term plan…and it doesn’t involve making wholesale panic changes every summer. He realises that players have to be able to play together, he puts more importance on the players personalities (which while you may have watched Albiol a lot, you won’t know what he is like off the field)…and to say Arsene is just not seeing the obvious quick fix just makes you look silly.

And to all those who moan about ‘another kid’ coming in, with the Bischoff ’signing’ you need to see the reality of the situation. Wenger isn’t just thinking about this season, or the first team, he is thinking about the club as a whole…Bischoff might not even play for the first team this season…even if he doesn’t it’s not really a problem. And he won’t be stopping the english prospects, as if they are good enough, they will play ahead of him…Wenger realises that being Arsenal manager isn’t just about signing a few big name signings so that the fans will be happy in august, if it means they will be gutted and trophyless in May. Bischoff might be a Stefan Maltz, but he might also be a Flamini or a Vieira…with Wengers record, I would suggest it is more likely to be the latter.

Ade doesn’t want to leave, he wants more money. He doesn’t care where he has it. And personally, he has no right to break his contract or demand a payrise. We can keep him and we can keep him at his current salary. Personally, I think AW will do just that to prove a point and to keep his team together. Ade won’t throw games because he smarter than that (bad performances/not playing = less likely to get a salary boost any time soon). Doesn’t stop him from being a cunt though.

Ethan, is it not clear to everyone and possibly Wenger that Kolo and Gallas can not play together ?? they are both sweeper type of centre backs and need a dominante centre back partner, thats the Zapata Gallas trade, Gallas is also on a lot of money, I believe he is one of the highly paid players at the club, Gilberto has a ear left and is not up to it anymore so let him leave cheap for the good service, Toure we could get with the Hleb deal and Albiol and Valencia are keen to trade, it was all moves that seemed to improve us and were within out reach, I know that transfers and dealings and player personalities are so difficult these days I just thought the above dealings were spot on for Arsenal..
David said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Ethan i understand what you are saying but it would only have real credibility if we had been winning trophies the last few seasons! We sign small name players and make them big names. Brilliant idea in principle but we have won nothing by doing this for years now! I agree with the youth policy but when wenger is saying he doesn’t have much money and that the money he does have needs to be used on contracts aswell then why waste money on this players contract when it looks like a pointless signing in an area that we really don’t need cover for! If other players are better than him as you said then he will only ever play in the reservs say he signs on £10,000 per week for 3 years which would be about normal i guess. that works out at about £480,000 a year which is almost £1.5m after 3 years on a player that would never have played for us!

Watford Gooner, we may not have Nasri but I have some information from a very reliable source in San Marino. Apparently we have put in a bid for Ingistalem (San Marino 3rd division runners up) 17yo midfield player Pier Fuckhaussen. He has so far played 1 game of football since leaving school and is currently working part time as a postman. He once played for the San Marino post office under 12’s and won a runners up medal. Wenger has been after this lad for 8 years apparently and now sees him as an ideal replacement for Cesc when he is sold to Barca in January. My San Marino source has never been wrong, mainly because this is the first thing he has contacted me about. The signing may have to wait until the end of the financial year in San Marino or when Ingistalem sign another player Hithem Len Martha from their rivals Outistalem.
Dave said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:12 pm
‘The Bisch’… I don’t think his age really makes much difference…if Wenger signs him it is for a reason, you have to remember how long he was out injured, that is part of the reason why he didn’t play for WB. Vieira was 20 when he joined us, he had hardly played for Milan, and look at how he progressed when he joined Arsenal. You are right, he might never play for us regularly, but at the same time, if he plays for a while in the reserves, and gets some game-time under his belt after some horrible injuries, he might add depth to our squad. Just because it has become the norm to consider someone ‘a prospect’ at 14-15-16…it doesn’t mean a guy is past it at 21. Players develop at different ages. Were you one of the ones who ranted that Flamini should go before last season?
Ethan said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:13 pm
If he is a free transfer i do not see what is so wrong with taking a punt on him because Arsene Wenger obviously must see something in him to want to bring him here to Arsenal in the fist place and if he gets fit it could turn out to be a very very very smart peace of busines by the club? IMO

Adebayor is a cunt, anyone decent forward would score shit loads with our midfield , give him a huge payrise when he performs consistently for 5 years like Thierry, I remember the good old days money was never really an issue with Thierry and he certainly could have left us earlier, Fuck Adebayor his first touch is at times awful and he’d be found out in a slower technical league, Bendtner is twice the player at the same ages, I saw Adebayor at Metz and Monaco he was a joke, if Nicklas carries on improving like he was he’ll dick all over Ade anyway..
David said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Kent Paul – Yep, we are paying nothing for him, he will not be on huge wages, and if he turns out to be decent then brilliant, if not.. fair enough.
J.Sanderson said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:18 pm
All the people that are backing this signing are blinded by a couple of things, one is Cesc and the other is Ifs and Buts!!!!!
Cesc was an unknown and is now one of the best in the world! Not everyone is going to be like that! Also we know that this player has a long list of injuries hence he has only ever played one game with the full werder side. that is fact but saying he would be a good signing IF he stays fit thats an IF and a big one looking at it too. All we actually know is that he has only EVER played once for Werder cos he HAS been out injured. Look at our list of midfielders we already have and then tell me again that we need to add depth there!
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Its a waste of wages and a squad place we already have filled, end of, he could be the bollocks but then again so could Randall,Lansbury,Merida if given his chance..
David said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:23 pm
‘David’ – I think you answered your own point. Arsene knows better than anyone what we need. He sees the players in training every day. He knows our budget. His contacts in the football world are legendary. Do you really think if it was as easy as just ‘getting’ Albiol, he wouldn’t do it? You have to conclude that for some reason (unknown to us) he has decided against it. On balance, I would trust his judgment on transfers over most other managers in world football, let alone some poster on a football blog (no offence)
‘Clacko the Gooner’ – you are the same, talking about what we should do as if you could just wave a magic wand and we would start winning trophies. This is the real world! I don’t think Bischoff will even make it to the first team this season, unless we have an injury crisis. Of course we will have to spend money on wages, but Arsene probably thinks there is enough of a player here who might develop into first team material. It’s a risk, but aren’t all transfers? We can have a view on these matters, we are entitled to, but I think we should remember that there are a lot of things which we do not know, which Arsene does (budgets, players personalities, etc etc etc)

Ethan;
You aint getting me fella.
The guy is 21, he has been around for 3 years and played ZERO 1st team games.
He should be considered as a 1st team squad player , forcing his way into the bremen team, he hasnt.
Lets face it, he is either
1) Shit
2) Constantly injured
he will be signed so tnbat when he never plays due to injuruies the fact that RvP and Rosicky manage 14 games between em will seem like loads.
The Bisch said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Zapata = gallas or Kolo. Dead similar to both of em. Not the dominate CB some are calling for.
I demand we sign on of those big Russian CBs, they looked solid.
The Bisch said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Why is everyone trying to bash the Bisch???
Whats all that about?
The Bisch said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:33 pm
have you seen Zapata play ?? do you mean the Russians that shipped 7 goals to Spain ? and the ones run ragged by a certain F Torres of Liverpool ?..or do you mean the Russians that let Mikey Dwarf Owen win a header in Russia for Rooneys goal ?
David said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Actually, Cesc was not an unknown he played in the U17 tournaments for Spain and was outstanding, just like Xavi, Puyol etc. were in their earlier days.
Unfortunately, the success of all players depends on ‘Ifs and Buts’. No one expected Rosicky, Diaby, RvP, Denilson and so on to be plagued by so many injuries as they had few injuries before coming to Arsenal. Mr Bischoff might just buck the trend and prove all his doubters wrong!
If we have depth in midfield, as everyone claims, why did Wenger not play some of these players last season when it was obvious that some of our midfielders needed a break towards the end of last season??? Instead he chose to loan these players out.
The Oracle said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Ethan i am not saying it is easy and that you can just wave a magic wand. We play the best football of any team in the world yet have won nothing that past 4 seasons now! That proves in itself that it ent easy but what i am saying is in young speak he ent young. What good player do you know that had only played 1 game for a respectable club by the time he is 21 and make it? Wenger is human, he makes mistakes too and signing this player i fear is one of them!
If this player becomes an established, reliable player then i will gladly eat my own balls with a smile on my face but i don’t see it happening!
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:38 pm
I’m getting what you are saying loud and clear, I just don’t agree with it – don’t you think Wenger might have considered these issues before signing him? He has been injured, but because of that, you would expect our medical team to do a very detailed check on him. As I said before, to write him off at 21 just because it is the convention to think if you are that age not a first team player is just stupid. If you write to the board to put your name forward if Arsene fails, I will gladly give them a reference of your thorough football knowledge…
Ethan said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I think you have got me worng, i am not writing him off and have said that i will back him as he is an Arsenal player, i just don’t feel that it is a signing that we need to have made due to his injury ridden past and believe that this MAY be a mistake but only time will tell. If indeed we are signing them then all the best to him and i hope he becomes a good player, i just don’t necessarily think it’s a signing that needed to be made.

Ethan i just read your post again and i am sorry but i won’t take personal attacks as i haven’t done that to you! I don’t claim to know everything about football but you are no manager yourself! We all have opinions and i am happy to debate them but there is no need to start slating people because of what their opinion is!
Clacko the Gooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:46 pm
You say you aren’t writing him off, but you said you would eat your own balls if he becomes a reliable player. OKAY! Maybe we should wait to see him playing football before judging his future footballing career…
Ethan said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:46 pm
I am with Clacko here, he never got personal but the comment at the end from Ethan was condescending..
David said this on July 1, 2008 at 1:47 pm
I wasn’t making it personal, but it is annoying to see random fans seeming to claim they know more than the greatest manager of Arsenal. Of course we are all entitled to opinions, but the way most write on here is as if they think they could do a good job as Arsenal manager with one hand tied behind their backs! To be honest, I think it’s disrespectful to what a great job Arsene is doing for the club. How do you know I am not a manager?…I might be Arsene Wenger himself for all you know…

1 of the CBs was effin quality, cant remember his name, he’s about yay high and walks with a squint.

We have good change to catch Samir. That’s all.
And the promised interview hasn’t been publsihed yet.
I think the OM’s first issue to keep Ben Arfa. (And it’s a good sign that Ben Arfa trains in the no: 22 shirt.)
I am afraid of that what will happen, if Ben Arfa can’t go OM.

I agree with you on all accounts, plus the fact he can play on the wing might meen Wenger is just signing him for depth, but in any case, yes he has a bad record with injuries, yes he has hardly played a professional game, but if Wenger gets him, Wenger wants him, theres a very a good reason, Wenger knows what it is and seeing as we dont know Wengers transfer plans and how good this guy is on the pitch we cant know the reason we’ve signed him.
Plus, this has been announced by Bremmen and the player, but not by Arsenal, until its announced by Arsenal (i dont even trust the BBC anymore after the Nasri announcement) then he is not an Arsenal player.

Yea thats by biggest problem with it aswell. For that positon we have Randall, Merida and Barazite (cuz i doubt he’ll get many games upfront), plus Landsbury (whos younger than the rest but good), not to mention Ramsey and Wilshire, and Emmanuel-thomas who i still rate alot, all breaking throu (or in the case of the latter, will be ready to break throu in a couple of seasons).
We also already have Denilson and Diaby in the first team, not to mention Fabregas, and Song still may end up being a midfeilder not a defender.
Looks like enough to me.

I disagree with him then cuz i think he only had a bad game cuz his team mates didnt utilise him properly, hes got coming onto through balls along the ground into space where he can start to run and has freedom to put the ball where he wants it. Against spain he was mostly given short passes when he was in cramped positions and long ball fed into him when he has his back up against the spanish defence.
I think hes better on the wing than up front, or when hes given a free attacking role.

TrinderGooner said this on July 1, 2008 at 3:07 pm

“after all the pleasure the team give us do you think its right to bollock them for one stray pass”
Depends how bad the pass is. I bollock them during the game, yes. If theres a stray pass i get pissed, after the game no. I Bollock them after only if theres a consistant stream of stray passes, but i wont hold it against them for 2 long (usually until the next match). I bollock individuals if they are the ones reponsable, like a bollock Eboue alot cuz he seems to give away the ball with stray passes much more often than any1 else, and ill keep bollocking them until they get it right.
“do you reckon Thomas Cruise will announce it on Oprah Winfrey and jump on the sofa ?..”
Lol…poor kid, with that name hes never guna get a break from the taunts. Hes a decent player thou, duno if he’ll make it but hes solid and versatile…although hes never blown me away, he’ll make it in football, just not nessesarily at Arsenal level, but u neva know.

“the cunt puts no effort in either and just throws his arms up”
I always thougth he put in quite alot of effort personally but maybe thats just me. All eboue needs is a bit of composure, hes got a good shot, hes good on the ball and on his day hes a decent passer, he just gets it all wrong alot of the time. Strange how he seems more dangerious going forward when hes was at right back than now at right wing thou… But i think people forget how good he was in his first season as the first pick right back, Sagna has done better cuz hes more solid defencivley, but Eboue was very highly talked about. Hes had 1 bad season and personally i dont want him as our first pick right winger, but i want him at the club and i think he can be very useful as back-up to Sagna and Walcott.
Johnny Maverik said this on July 1, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Its fucked up that he plays for Coatia don’t you think ?!! its crazy !! even in Euro 2008 there was a smattering or Brazilians around national teams !! Guererro for Poland, Senna for Spain, Aurelio for Turkey,Kuranyi for Germany, the country is overflowing with good players !! maybe england should start bringing them over earlier !! haha
David said this on July 1, 2008 at 3:20 pm
I agree he seemed so much better at right back than right wing, but there are times in a game he’ll give it away or lose it and he won’t track back or does just throw his arms up in the air and moans !! its like now he thinks he’s right wing he ain’t gotta track back !! I do want him in the squad and hate myself after getting on his caes he is after all trying to make Arsenal better even though he hides it well !!!!
David said this on July 1, 2008 at 3:22 pm

Yea i agree, i think alot of the time its cuz hes actually really dissapointed, he really wants to make it good and every game he does bad the pressure just builds. Hes not a great player under pressure and thats why he seems to just get worse and worse. All in all he wasnt actually a disaster last season, but basically avarage, which looks like a disaster when ur in a side that has very few players that will give an avarage performance, even in defeat we have atleast 4 players who stood out and gave an above avarage performace.

“ie Merson,Limpar,Overmars,Ljungberg,Pires, you just can’t see that return from him ever !!”
Also true. He can do it thou, hes just gotta calm down and play his game, break forward and cross instead of trying to cut in and take the whole fucking defence on, which he often does and never manages to succeed in doing so. Hes a good crosser but again, he seemed to get more crosses in when at right back than at right mid.
Another thing ive noticed is that he doesnt ever seem to pass the ball back, when he gets into trouble he always tries to play it forwards and it gets cut out. Hes gotta learn than just cuz hes an attacking player now it doesnt meen hes banned from defencive thinking, hes allowed to turn and pass it back into defence. He and Sagna have a good understanding thou which is a plus and when it comes off it comes off well, thats another thing he can really use to improve on his performances.

Cesc would have made it at Barca, remember he was only 15 when we nicked him, which was why they got so pissed
Again, Diaby and Song where young when we signed them but had made appearences for their clubs, no they werent starters but thats due to age rather than lack of faith. But the Almunia point is true, and u have made a good point, just cuz he hasnt played much doesnt meen hes not good enough, and we dont know how good he is cuz none of us have ever seen him play. Wenger will have seen him play, and if he gets him theres a good reason.

I don’t understand why English keep on accusing AW doesn’t contribute to England International team. Arsenal has best physio in England and he already joined England team. Further more with this new young lad joining RoSICKY & Robin van PerSICK on the treatment bed, Arsenal is going to produce another world class English physio without a question.

The only reason that Lyon didnt want Ben Arfa to join OM is becasue they cant pay the transfer fee. It’s now July and they will be able to once we complete the Nasri’s deal.

The deal for Nasri was set to be announced today, along with the Ben Arfa to Marseille deal.
Marseille had agreed a deal for Ben Arfa last week, but Lyon refused to sign the release forms, meaning he couldnt complete the move. Ben Arfa was at Marseille training today wearing Nasri’s 22, but he is not there player yet.
The announcement of Nasri has been put back, until Lyon and Marseille can sort out the agreement for Ben Arfa, who will be his replacement.
Both chairmen have issued statements on the official websites, about the transfer. Nasri’s website had scheduled an Interview with Nasri today as he was set to be formally announced, but all this Ben Arfa stuff has put it back

From what I have read I think we can assume that Bischoff will not be on too many fans shirts next season.
Until the lad signs I can not believe that this lad will be an Arsenal player, many of the posts above make good points about the players we already have and the youngsters coming through. I think perhaps he has been offered either a trial or a short term contract at best so we can assess if he is over his injuries or not and if he can get back to the player he was (what ever standard that was) before.

I’m shocked by the amount of negative comments about the potential signing of Amaury.
a) he is out of contract so not going to cost anything.
b) he has hardly played at all for a few years and this is a major break for him, his wages will be minimal – he won’t hold back any other signings or dent the budget available one bit.
c) Wenger pulls out the hat more rabbits than Paul Daniels ever did so don’t ever knock a cheap signing.
d There are no details of the signing, i.e clauses how many years its for, for all we know it might be an extended trial during pre-season to see if we can pick up a v useful player for sod all money..
Think before you all slag off Wenger and this *potential* deal it could turn out to be another gem, or we could let him go, either way he will cost nothing unless he turns out to be good in which case we won’t care and we will be happy.
DaveyD said this on July 2, 2008 at 7:35 pm
i think he will good for us he is got a good tackle and strong but what really bothers me is rate of injuries according to reports in germany. and i also think we should let adebayor leave ,he is not the right man for arsenals type of football relating the number of passes he get to the rate he scores,he’s got no ball control ,no first touch ,can’t make a run for himself ,he can’t bring out a goal from his own individual effort ,not creative for himself and others.

I disagree with that assesment of adebayor as i think he is a good player who works hard, holds the ball up well and at times last season he looked unplayable. His individual talent is nowhere near Henry for example but then who’s is,but his team play is better!Saying that I do think that we should let him go as he thinks he is better than what he is and we dont need an ego like that.Any player who’s heart isnt at arsenal can go no matter how good they are.It would be good business if we sold him for 30m and got santa cruz for 15m and spent the remaining money on another addition.
