Nasri Has Pre-Contract Agreement To Join Arsenal

Contrary to reports in the media yesterday, the chances of Samir Nasri joining Atlético Madrid this summer remain extremely slim, as the player has already signed a pre-contract agreement to join Arsenal following the completion of France’s European Championship campaign.

A deal was negotiated with Marseille for Nasri last month, with the Gunners activating his €15 million buy out clause. However, all the formalities were not completed in time, as Samir was involved with the French squad for Euro 2008, which has since seen the deal delayed.

The news of Atlético’s apparent interest, was broken by unreliable Spanish paper “Marca“, but shortly after this emerged, Marseille based news wire La Provence, which first broke Arsenal’s interest in Nasri, confirmed he has signed a pre-contract and will move after Euro 2008.

The reports claimed Madrid were readying an offer to beat the one which was offered by Arsène Wenger, but as the agreement is already in place with the Gunners, it would set up a difficult legal battle should he try and break off the imminent transfer.

Obviously the media are unhappy with Arsenal buying top players, and desperate to try and upset fans by claiming the potential deal could be in doubt. Whilst it is frustrating waiting for the signing to be announced, when your paying top money for a player like we are, it’s important to make sure every little detail is sorted out correctly. That’s why there has been a delay, not because it has fallen through.

Samir Nasri and his French side are in action this evening against Robin van Persie’s Holland, needing the win to keep alive their chances in the tournament. Should the Dutch come out winners tonight, then Nasri’s switch to Arsenal could be completed early if France are eliminated.

  1. JS do you have any news on Aaron Spear? has he finished speaking to Toons & Gunners?

  2. He has signed for Newcastle United, i gave an update shortly after the news was announced.

  3. http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.laprovence.com%2Farticles%2F2008%2F06%2F12%2F486575-Region-en-direct-Mercato-une-offre-de-l-Atletico-Madrid-pour-Nasri.php&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sl=fr&tl=en

  4. Thats great news about Nasri amd shows that we are not being priced out of all our possible targets as the media keep reporting. How many more players can you see coming to Arsenal this transfer window and how many do you think we will lose from the 1st team?

  5. Thanks for keeping us updated. Great job!
Still not getting my hopes up though. It looks promising.

  6. This is class!
I knew we had him and that it was just going to be sign on the dotted line after the Euro’s! I have been saying this to many of my mates all of which doubted me when i did say it!
to them i can only say this, IN YOUR FACE :-D

  7. Wenger said he didnt want anybody to leave, and i cant see many leaving. Possibly Traore, Song out on loan.

Nasri + Ramsey and maybe another in

  8. Do you believe Hleb will stay? We have never heard directly from him that he wants to leave Arsenal and I think he only really wanted to leave for Milan, possibly because him and Flamini are very close. Thanks for the reply and keep up the good work!

  9. I would say he would leave, i think his position in the team is now under threat, and Nasri seems like the replacement for him.

I dont think he can stay after everything that has happened.

  10. J whats happening with adebayor, this story about him agreeing seems to have some truth in it

  11. Yes please bring more quality. Nasri looks a great player and Ramsey is definately one for the future. This will surely bring more depth to the squad. All we need now is a CB cover for Gallas and Toure, someone who can give them competition for places.

Boruc from Celtic looks a class keeper.

  12. Phillip – how does it have truth? its just that a rumour started.. and now everybody covers it. Just because more people pick it up.. does not make it true.

I dont think he will leave personally.

  13. Splendid news indeed. Hopefully Domenech might freshen things up in the French side tonight after their dreadfully inept display against Romania. Considering the plethora of talent he has available to him, I cannot possibly even begin to comprehend his decision to pick Florent Malouda. Would be nice if we got to see more of Nasri, but I can only envisage Domenech playing safe (Diarra should be playing ahead of Makelele too). That said, I hope Holland win, because the quicker we tie up the Nasri Deal, the better.

I also can’t help but think we really missed out when Spurs signed Luka Modric. Have watched him a number of times now and he looks the perfect Arsenal type. Like a mix between Rosicky, Hleb and even the faintest resemblance, passing wise, to Fabregas. £16 million may have been steep, but he is one hell of a player. Shame for spurs that theyre losing Berbatov.

    Super Duper Gang, Super Duper.

  14. Adebayor will still be a win situation for us. If he stays then thats good coz hes an immense player. If he leaves we’ll get good money for him. Bendtner looks like hes finding his feet and if Ade leaves then Bendtner can step up.

  15. Why aren’t Arsenal interested in R. Van Der Vaart? sell Adebyor and buy him and Villa?

  16. Link for statement @ the end of the season

    http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=first+team&article=491483&lid=&Title=I+will+be+here+next+season,+insists+Adebayor

  17. Milan know exactly how to stir things to try and land what they want. I wouldnt pay much attention to what Galliani says and who he wants, he’s linking himself with every top striker in Europe so he doesnt pay inflated prices. Milan not being in the Champions League next season is going to affect them financially and no way are they going to buy Drogba, Eto and Ade and Drogba wants to leave Chelsea. Also the rumours help Adebayors agent who is trying to negotiate a new deal with Arsenal at the moment. Dont believe the hype!!

  18. Eskiboi01 & Neb is not a win situation, There are 2 effective striker/forward in the world & the are Drogba & Ade. How can Bendtner get behind defensive back lines when he doesnt have pace however he will be a good backup striker.

  19. I think it’s just Ade’s agent causing trouble, Drogba would be a much simpler signing for Milan and i think that will end up going through. If Ade does go, I know Roque Santa Cruz is a good player but he doesn’t strike me as a suitable replacement.

JS, what positions do you think Nasri and Ramsey will fill in the squad, both either flank? Or possibly central?

  20. As Wenger has already stated that he wont be buyign a defender. What do you think the chances of us that we will buy a player to replace Flamini? Or do you think he’ll go with Diaby Gilberto or Denilson? If we do buy who would you think would be a realistic target?

  21. Ramsey and Nasri on the wings

Has anybody seen Le Grove this morning?

  22. ive seen it…

  23. I’m afraid that pre-contract agreements are NOT legally binding. They are merely a gentelman’s agreemeant, so he could, in theory, still sign for another team.

  24. J thanks for the feedback, ur sources seem to be very accurate so i thought i’d ask for your feedback

  25. no problem Phillip, i had an idea that maybe he was planning of using a defender as a DM.. therefore wanted a replacement.. but maybe he now has a DM lined up.. so doesnt need to replace a central defender.. long shot.. but maybe

  26. Simmo – if he has signed an agreement to join Arsenal, then its a legal document.

  27. J, One player which as caught my eye is Arda Turan.
Beautifully skillful, eye for a pass and goal.
Simular to Pires at 21, which is Turans age.
He played class against L’pool and done well in Euros.
Have you any info on him and what do you think of him.

On Ade, I think Ade will stay this season however if he doesnt sign a new deal now then we are aswell to sell him for £30 million now as for £15 next season if he wont sign a new deal.

Hope RVP and Rock do well this season as I see this as RVP s last season unless he produces the goods

  28. Well i know of him yes, my good friend at the Gooner Forum is Turkish, and has spoke about him before.

He is considered very much the golden boy in Turkey, his attitude at times has been questioned as there were reports he was in a porn film with a Turkish model recently.

    But no doubt his talents

  29. Does anyone think the keeper rumours are true and that we are close to signing Shay Given?

  30. Looks like Given link could be true!
    http://www.newcastleunited-mad.co.uk/news/loadnews.asp?cid=TMNW&id=395005

Great stuff, nice to have an Irish man in the side.
Far superior kepper to Al, The defence will be brimming with confidence with Shay behind them

  31. J, take it from me. For a contract to be legally binding you must demonstrate consideration.

That means one of the parties must have bought something to the table to demonstrate intent. I.E. He accepted a nominal fee or something along those lines.

    A pre-contract is worth zip.

  32. wheres the link that sez hes signed a pre contract then?

  33. Ya really J, Well after Manu Petits revelations I think Turan would fit in with us……

  34. oh sanderson u know u mentioned a defender playing in DM wenger mentioned in a magazone armand traore filling that role becasue hes 6ft1/2 strong very pacy good tackler but has awful defensive positioning, we might buy a left back maybe mark miligan has a versitile player

  35. what is the manager thinking about signing a new super stiker? is adebayor leaving?

  36. thats sounds about wright because wenger always keeps his tranfer targets very private until there have siyned infact we are only big clugb that does that which good because although its very furtrating for the fans our targest wont poched by other clubs

  37. I cant really see wenger buying given, he’s not the kind of keeper wenger would go for as he likes tall keeper which given is not. Plus i think wenger has alot of faith fabinanski

  38. By the way supergunner what are you on about!!
Only 2 effective strikers Ade and Drogba! What rubbish!
Let me see so by your reckoning, Villa is not as good and neither is the list below!
Jan Huntelaar (or however you spell it)
    Ibrahimovic (Inter – Fantastic player)
Benzema (wanted by everyone and not for no reason)
    Torres (need i say more)
    Podolski

These are just a few and ok we wouldn’t get some of them but this is just to prove my point that Drogba and Ade aren’t just the only 2!
Grat news bout Nasri by the way!

  39. Arsene Wenger has not said that he won’t be buying a defender.

He has merely been reported as saying he has decided that he doesn’t necessarily need to buy defenders. That means he has left his options open. Capiche?!

  40. Cescy – if you bothered to read the article.. the link is from La Provence.. and the link is provided

    http://www.laprovence.com/articles/2008/06/12/486575-Region-en-direct-Mercato-une-offre-de-l-Atletico-Madrid-pour-Nasri.php

  41. I hope that this news is true. It would be a very big shame if the Atletico would sign Nasri. We can’t allow it! :D I hope Wenger will sing Samir after the Euro2008. I will be angry if Samir will choose an another team. But the spanish league is weaker then the Premier League.

  42. get yar yar nasri an villa we wil be unstopable

  43. Clacko – Ibrahimovic a fantastic player?

This guy is the most overrated footballer on the planet!

  44. I beg to differ, you must be only talking about his national appearances because if you actually took an interest in other leagues you would know that at Inter he is a fantastic influential player that can turn the game in an instant!
He hadn’t scored a goal for over 2 and a half years for his country which is crap or was until he scored an amazing goal (and only goal so far) from outside the box!
Over-rated… Do some research and i think you will find otherwise my friend!

  45. why dont finish the Ramsey deal sa soon sa possible U see what bhappning to Nasri’s deal

chill out mate, it will all be done. And don’t worry about Nasri man, as this article is all about just wait till afetr th eeuros!

  47. the french will be finnished today the in a weeks time will have our nasri. By the way did any if you see the Nasri video. its like his was 11 years old > J if you have the link Please

  48. WE SHOULD HAVE SIGNED MODRIC

  49. Why arnt we linked with any dutch players they all looked amazing

  50. I for one would love Sneijder at Arsenal but good luck gettin Real Madrid to sell him haha!
Did anyone see the game yesterday, i thought Geurero for Poland (or Brazil as he is originally from there) looked on fire, even doin the little tricks!

  51. Fabrice Muamba is going to Bolton.. so we will get a cut of that money, due to the sell on fee

  52. MODRIC he is one of the slowest player I have saw in EURO2008 for that kind of player 16 mil ooooow thats maddnes

  53. I usually don’t believe this cos it gets my hopes up, but this site is on e of THE best blogs and extremley reliable, so for once I will expect Nasri to arrive!

  54. You know how much that was j?

  55. I hope France get beaten tonight and go out early so that Nasri is not on show too much and we can sign him early (Just being selfish, I guess nothing wrong with that!)

  56. pre-contract ? 15m buy out clause ? reliable source ?

  57. WE SHOULD HAVE SIGNED MODRIC

Marco Van Twatten said this on June 13, 2008 at 12:43 pm

To replace who? Fabregas? They play in almost identical position, we can use that money to strengthen other areas where we are weak IMO.

  58. Modric is Benayoun’s long lost twin, and no one would pay 16m for Benayoun, though he is a good player.

  59. With Nasri and Ramsey apparently done deals, we have the 1 creative player that Wenger was talking about, plus Hleb’s replacement (if he leaves). Due to the amount of time the Hleb Barca deal is taking, I wouldn’t be surprised if Yaya was part of the deal .Don’t be fooled by what Barca say about Yaya, it’s an attempt to secure a straight swap without any cash. Our hand is very strong in this deal: Hleb is under contract and Yaya has said he wants to come to us. I’d be over the moon with a deal that saw Hleb go there and Yaya to us, £5m on top would give me a wet dream.lol

  60. Tunde I’m with you for France to lose tonight

  61. I go out for a nice lunch, enjoy a beer in the sun, rock back in to work and still Arsenal.com has no announcement about Rambo!! Don’t they realise some of us have nothing better to do than wait for this kind of news whilst at work?!?!

  62. if hleb stays and nasri comes in would that mean rosicky would be a bench man.

  63. @ Dean, I would prefer if Barca put up the money for Henry first which, from what I’ve read, they apparently haven’t. After that discussions for Hleb could start. ;)

  64. Rosicky is already a bench man………..a treatment bench that is, lol

  65. This is one of the best Arsenal blogs around.

I was commenting on Le Grove today, and they started deleting my posts because I disagreed with their article!

  66. ROSICKY is a good payer whats the odds of yids braken in to the top 4

  67. Senderos in DM… JS any comment? Anyone?

  68. re: Fabrice Muamba going to Bolton & sell on fee.

Arsene has stated on more than one occasion that the club doesn’t include sell on fees in it’s transfer contracts of out-going players (which, if true, I think is wrong…Arsenal should do this when appropriate).

  69. what midfilder will we by! snider hopefuly

  70. Sniejder is class, but he is untouchable. Real paid 27m for him last year and he has settled well.

I wonder if Wenger does get a CB, will he move Toure into midfield, he has energy, can tackle, pass and shoot-why not?

  71. We got a sell on fee for Pennant, about 1.2M

  72. Itz so ungrateful to wish france lose…..frenchs r surving arsenal 4 a good amount of tym….nw wishin dem badluck isnt a gud reward 4rm d fans…..i wish dem luck….nd in case of nasri….i m cnfdnt d deal will be done…..nd hleb is mayb barca bound wid yaya movin in d opposte drctn….

  73. Magneto. Wenger has said he does not include a buy-back clause not a sell on fee. He’s pretty much done it for every young player he’s let go.
Btw. There is no pre-contract agreement for Nasri, just a gentleman’s agreement.

  74. Ramsey confirmed on http://www.arsenal.com

  75. Ramsey is officially an Arsenal player.

    http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=News&article=492628&lid=NewsHeadline&Title=Ramsey+completes+move+from+Cardiff+City

  77. Every young player that is sold by Arsenal has a buy back and a sell on clause in their deals! That is why we let them go so cheaply. The standard clause is to buy back for the same amount and a 20%sell on fee.

  78. Angelo and how would you know about that?

These are only reports so dnt believe anything until you see it on the official Arsenal website.

  79. My friend Sebastien’s father is a major shareholder at Marseille. I recently posted a comment on gooner talk which explained the Nasri story so far in relation to his transfer activity. I can post it here if you like.

  80. Here it is, for whoever is interested.
It’s all true. The only way it can possibly be inaccurate is if Sebastien is lying…which I severely doubt.

I’ve asked one of my friends from Marseille, who’s father is a shareholder at the club, to fill me in on Nasri’s situation. Basically….Lyon were the first team to make an offer (Ben Arfa was part of the deal). Marseille wanted to accept but after consulting Nasri’s agent saw no point as Nasri would only move abroad. Inter made an inquiry soon after but the situation was uncertain due to continuing talks with Hleb’s agent and the unstable managerial position, so nothing concrete. Then Arsenal began talks and sorted everything out relatively quickly.

Get this though, Nasri’s agent actually told Papa Diouf to attempt to delay giving Arsenal permission to speak to Nasri and wait for more offers to fall on the table.

What I gather now from this is that Nasri has been told to keep his head down and perform well whenever given an opportunity in the Euros. More teams come in, creating competitive wage offers from various interested clubs considering the fee with Marseille is fixed.

All the while he has got the formalities sorted with Arsenal so that if the Euros don’t go so well he can quickly fall back on that.

  81. i feel that wenger will buy a goal keeper and a full back that deal set playes beond that bot much players, but i would buy another wright winger to cover for wilcot as well.

So happy they got beaten and that Nasri did not play or had the chance to shine, his price cannot rise now, confident he will be an Arsenal player next season!!! Hope Italy or Romania go through.

  85. Thanks for that piece of news Angelo……..it means he may not be with us for too long as it looks like we are just there in case Euro 2008 does not go well!!!! It shows that he will be off as soon as more money is on the table……oh well…..agents agents agents…….are footballers morons? Can’t they think and decide for themselves?

  88. We’re all fools aren’t we? Nasri may only sign for us if there is nothing better on the table. We supporters follow our teams with our hearts – I even named my little boy after TH14 – but players mostly jusr follow the money. Same as it ever was since the big money got involved and agents got greedy. Nasri will probably sign after tonight’s result v. RVP’s Holland. Nasri will probably kiss the badge next season too. But if and when the really big bucks are thrown at him (after Arsene has improved him 75%) he’ll do a Hleb or a Flamini or an Ade.

Actually, that maybe unfair on Hleb and Ade as neither has said they want to leave and in fact Ade has said he wants to stay. But their money grabbing agents are trying everything to get a bigger slice of the action this close season.

So, we’re all fools aren’t we? The agents will mostly influence who comes and goes. It’s noty for the love of the club.

Maybe, just maybe, Ramsey will be different!

Nasri’s Family ‘Deny’ Madrid Contact June 14, 2008
Posted by Gooner Chris in Arsenal News.

According to Marseille daily La Provence, Samir Nasri’s family have ‘denied’ any contact with La Liga side Atletico Madrid and expect the Frenchman to join Arsenal after Euro 2008.

The 20-year-old has been subject of an ongoing transfer battle supposedly between Spaniards Atletico and North London giants Arsenal.

Just weeks ago, Nasri was expected to put pen to paper and sign a 4-year contract with the Gunners. But Arséne Wenger later announced that the Marseille midfielder would sign after the European Championships.
