Muamba Makes Us Money + Gervinho & Facebook

Arsenal are set to make a healthy profit on former player Fabrice Muamba, as Birmingham are reported to have agreed a fee with Bolton for the player, following their relegation from the Premiership. Muamba joined The Blues in January 2007 for an initial £2 million pounds, which eventually rose to £4 million following criteria on appearances being met.

When the Gunners sold Fabrice, a sell on fee was added to the agreement, meaning should Birmingham also sell him on, Arsenal would get a percentage of whatever profit. The exact fee Bolton will pay is not known, however it is thought to be around £5 million, meaning we look set to bag around another £1 million for a player who came through our Academy.

In other news, Le Mans forward Gervinho keep hinting that Arsenal are chasing him, but his current employers are blocking any potential transfer. For me this just seems like his agent is trying to get him a move away, although he claims we have definitely made it clear we want him. Hmmm.

Alexandre Song and Armand Traore are said to be set for loan moves to West Brom. Portsmouth are very keen on Traore, and the Baggies have already been linked with Song, who penned a new contract last week. I personally think a loan would benefit both players, who finished the season between the Reserves and first team.

Inter Milan’s 17 year old forward Mario Balotelli is being linked with us and Chelsea, and whilst he is a really exciting young prospect, Nacer Barazite is already here and looks ready to explode into the first team next year.

Carlos Vela is taking English lessons, and is already looking forward to the battle to get a place in Wenger’s first team. He is currently away with Mexico as they try and qualify for the World Cup in 2010, and looks set to start both games against Belieze.

Finally, we’ve launched a new group on Facebook which is already growing pretty quickly. The whole purpose of its creation is so Young Guns readers can come together, and share videos, meet other Gooners and maybe play some games or whatever. Anyway, be sure to check that out!.

  1. £5m – £4m = £1m profit….

Therefore, the reported 30% of the profit we will get is more like £333,333.33. Certainly nowhere near £1m

  2. That’s more money to put towards Samir Nasri ;)

Think Muamba will fit in well at Bolton so a good signing for them.

The Gervinho rumours seem to be rubbish. I can’t see him coming, especially as he’s made a name for himself in Ligue 1 this season.

Great article, keep the superb work up. :D

  3. The sooner France get dumped out, the sooner we can get Nasri signed up!

Come on Italy, do the decent thing and beat the French.

  4. yeah Neal is correct … Arsenal get 30% of Birmingham’s profit (which is 1 to potentially 1.5m), not of the whole fee.

  5. Alexandre Song and Armand Traore are doing well, should not be loan out. Philippe Senderos is the guy that need to be loan out or sold, he doesn’t deserve to wear number 6.

  6. Hell would have to freeze over before we ever got Inter Milan’s Mario Balotelli because they would never sell him

  7. don’t be so sure paulo. jose-mo doesn’t fancy young playes. he might sell him for a significantly high amount. which is another way of saying, he’ll go to chelsea.

  8. My wish list:-

    Shirt No.6 – Havard Nordtveit
    No. 8 – Samir Nasir
    No. 18 – Aaron Ramsey
    No.16 – Carlos Vela
    No. 12 – Jack Wilshere

Alexandre Song and Armand Traore on the bench
Philippe Senderos, Justin Hoyte & Emmanuel Eboue sold and use the money to buy a world class central defender – Mexes or Zapata.

  9. Who are your Arsenal 50 worst players? Philippe Senderos & Emmanuel Eboue definitely 2 of them

  10. Just a question for JS or anybody else. I just saw an interview with Nacer Barazite and he was asked about Lansbury to which he responded that Henri was a good defensive midfielder. Would that be a true assessment of the player? I thought he was a player in the Fabregas role but a bit more rugged. Is he really a defensive midfielder?

  11. Senderos will shine through…don’t worry about it. he has all the attributes just needs a calm experienced defender next to him to learn his trade not gallas or toure who make just as many mistakes as him

  12. Balotelli is a huge crowd favorite the Italian/Ghanian boy is seen as their biggest prospect in a long time and the fans would hate anybody who sold him .. Have you herd the chears he gets whnever he enters the field , or is about to takee a freekick?? Balotelli will stay an Interplayer for some time I think. Can we afford to send either Traore or Song on looan?? I personally dont think so , id like Song to get a run in midfield , he was great there in the ACN and dont forget how he dominated StevieG and Alonso in the cup his had a bad start but is clearly improved.

  13. I don’t think Song will take kindly to him going out on loan again after signing a new deal lately. Also I like him nowadays one hell of a lot more then when I first saw him play. To me he’s gotta be in the 1st team squad this season. No I can’t see the boss loaning him out. Anyone else agree with me?

  14. Surely if Wenger doesn’t want to but a centre back (as he said) then we need Song with us. he’s done the loan thing and now he’s gotta do the bench thing.

  15. Song wont go on loan, guarenteed.

  16. I can think of at least 3 Arsenal CB’s of recent times who were much worse than Senderos (and I mean MUCH), so you can’t be much of a fan…..

  17. can someone but a link to the facebook group, it would be greatly appreciated :) thanks

  18. JS, whats the title of the Facebook Group? I tried finding it but didn’t have much luck. Can you believe there is a group on FB for the appreciation of Young Guns (the movie)! Some people have too much time on their hands!

  19. Nevermind. Found it.

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=48763805054

  20. I read about the Song rumour to West Brom a while ago. But part of the deal was that they had an option for a permanent signing at the end of the season, so it seems highly unlikely.

  21. does anyone know which arsenal youngsters are leavin this summer. I would like ogogo to stay for another season as from the games i have been to he looks a very good utility player

  22. I think we should hold on to Song, we might need him, Traore could do with some first team experience thou and where as he’s only likely to get 10-15 games max over the whole season with us, half a season anywhere else he’ll probably get that + the few games he’ll get with us when he returns. If he keeps improving like he is he’ll b a massive player for us and France in a couple of years (or maybe even sooner).

  23. Can anybody confirm if we have sell-on clause for David Bentley?

  24. I think Mario Balotelli will sign a new contract at inter and looks like france are going out so nasri could be announced soon cant wait

  25. “looks like france are going out”

Doubt it, id say having seen both the Italian and French performances so far the French have the upper hand on the Italians who look crap at the moment, the Romanians probably wont beet the Dutch (if they do it’ll be incredible but they almost definatly wont) so if the French can beat the Italians then they’re throu.

  26. There is a difference between West Brom asking for those players and those players going there on loan. Arsene Wenger had already stated that Alex Song was not going on loan. I also doubt that Armand Traore will go on loan.
Especially as we may be short of playerat the beginning of the season if like last year Arsene Wenger gave extra rest for the players involved in Euro 2008, African qualifiers, South American qualifiers. That include Samir Nasri, Gallas, Senderos, Djourou, Gilberto, Kolo Toure, Adebayor.
With Hleb going and Rosicky on the path to recovery, we may be short of wide player.
With the new premisership rule allowing team to name 7 substitutes (2 more than last year), those players may be on the bench and thrown in if the game is won or lost.

Gervinho was a target when in Belgium, however he would not have qualified for a permit. Now a well established Internationnal, he would easily qualify. During the last ANC, he was one of Ivory Coast best players.

Balotelli is refusing to sign a new contract with AC Milan, who may be force to sell this season or lose him for nothing later. He consider that AC Milan had lied to him or at least did not kept their promises and therefore was badly treated. He is very talented, but he may have better opinion of himself than AC Milan coaching staff. I am convinced that at Arsenal, he would be another Lassana Diarra, expecting to come and play and then throw a tantrum.

  27. Valentin//

You know what you’re talking about. AC Milan, LOL.

  28. Sorry I meant Inter Milan

  29. He is one of the reason why Mourinho had told Inter he does not need another striker.
With him and Zlatan both tall powerful striker, he does not need another Drogba to play the battering ram.

  30. Song will not be sent out on loan as we need him plus Arsene has stated that he’s going no where.
Treore to Portsmouth, no chance, he the under study to Clichy.
Its a pity that Nasri has not been given a chance to play a full game for France as I’d like to get a good view of the lad to see just what all the fuss is about.

  31. Mario Balotelli is meant to be a bit special, but I can’t see us signing a forward. We’ve already got 5 forwards fighting for the first team spots, and as you said, Barazite is waiting in the wings too and he looks like an absolute gem.

BTW: What’s happening with Sunu? Everytime I’ve seen him play he’s looked quite ordinary. Have I just watched him have stinkers, or is he quite a decent player?

  32. I gree Giles Sunu sucks, dont get me wrong he runs his heart for out foe the team and that is great but i do not think he has the technical quality to make into Arsenal’s first team anytime soon IMO

  33. That’s exactly what I was thinking. He does work hard, but I can’t imagine we’ll see him anywhere near the first team anytime soon. Just doesn’t seem to have what it take to be an Arsenal forward.

  36. Balotelli will not be leaving this transfer window. It is impossible for him to leave this transfer wondow. As he was born in Italy, but to illegal immigrants and subsequently adopted, but not legally, He does not hold official citizenship with any country. Also he cannot apply for citizenship of Italy until he is 18 and it will probably take about a month for the citizenship to be sorted.

  37. can any body tell me which reserve players are leaving arsenal.i dont think abu ogogo should leave as from seeing him in previous games he is class.

  38. Balotelli will be someone we can honestly think of in 2011-2012, after he has run through a large portion of whatever 3 year deal he’ll sign with Inter.

Joshb made a very good point, he’ll have to get some time in the Italian U-21 set-up, unless they promote him right to the national squad, before Arsene tables a bid for him.

And I’m sorry, but on Muamba, if my math is correct: £4m (because of appearances met) + 1£ (20% of £5m. Unless the deal was 30% of the next transfer fee) equals to somewhere around £5m total for this guy, which would mean he financed the move for Rambo!

Now to the next move on the transfer chessboard.

  39. Gilles Sunu is far from being ready for 1st team action, however as he is still young he still have a chance to make the 1st team one day. He has consistently played at a higher age group than his own. With the injury, he had difficulty adjusting and he has just found that last step up too steep. Maybe this year, he will be able to show in the reserve that he really has talent.

Regarding Mark Randall, he may not have the same talent than Henry Lansbury, but he has less 1st team players in front of him for the role of Flamini replacement. He is more the kind of hard working, forceful midfield enforcer, Gattuso type with an eye for the occasional shot and goal. Even Gilberto does not fit that mould, as I can’t see him yapping at the ankle of opponents. For those reason, I belive that he could surprise people and have a bigger play time than anticipated.

Regarding talented midfield player good on the ball who can make splitting defense pass, we have Fabregas, Denilson, Nasri, Diaby.

If you compare Hoyte and Bentley, a couple of years people would have bet that Bentley was going to make it and not Hoyte. Hoyte is still at the club as a backup. That may be the Mark Randall future.

  40. Danny M,

it’s 30% of the profit. no club would agree to 30% of the whole sale price as it would mean they would lose money on the deal. pay arsenal 4m for him and then turn around give arsenal 1.5m of the 5m initial fee (and then 225k of the 750k in top ups). then birmingham would 3.5 to 4.25m from bolton. not happening. sell-on clauses like this are structured to only begin at the price you sold the player. so arsenal sold him for 4m, therefore arsenal only get 30% of the difference between the fee he’s sold on for and 4m … in this case that difference is 1m (and could rise another 750k). so arsenal get 300k initially and another potential 225k if bolton has to pay the 750k in top ups to b’ham. in conclusion arsenal have made 4.3m in total from muamba and an additional 225k is possible.
