The Reason Why Aaron Ramsey Chose Arsenal

Cardiff City winger Aaron Ramsey has told the club he will accept the contract offered to to him by Arsenal, with the move expected to be completed in the next two days, after both teams have concluded negotiations.

Steve Rowley and Ken Friar met the prospect in London on Friday, where terms were agreed for his transfer, before the Gunners arranged for him and his family to be flown first class to Switzerland to see Arsene Wenger. Whilst there Wenger took time out to answer Aaron concerns, as well assure him he would not be loaned out and his development would be best served in his capable hands.

He will now travel to the Shenley based training centre to undergo a medical examination, before penning terms on a five year contract, once both clubs have finalised the deal. Cardiff have confirmed they will not be taking the player back on loan, but were happy with the financial package which see’s Ramsey join the Gunners for £5 million.

“Aaron did me the courtesy of ringing me to let me know his position,” said Chairman Peter Ridsdale. “It’s a £5m deal – and on a straight cash basis it was the best option on the table.

“We knew he had talent and clearly Premiership clubs knew there was a talent there. Aaron’s still very young and from our perspective it was far better not to lose him or still have him on loan. But that’s not to be, the lad’s made his decision.”

Manchester United and Everton also had offers accepted for his transfer, but he turned down the chance to join Everton, leaving just United and Arsenal in the running. United sent Gary Neville to try and tempt the youngster, but the Ramsey family wanted to meet senior management staff to discuss the deal, however it seems they did not take the player seriously enough, and now Wenger has jumped the queue.

So it seems Man Utd took for granted his potential signing, and Arsenal treated the player with respect throughout and have suitably impressed.

Welcome aboard Aaron Ramsey, you had a luck escape there…

  1. I didn’t expect it at all :D
I was sure he was Man Utd bound..

  2. welcome the ram to the gunners

  3. you called it jay, great shout

  4. Spot on Sanderson, it was about “impressing” him just like you said yesterday. Arsenal pulled out all the stops, while Man Utd were arrogant enough to issue a statement about his signing before finishing the deal.

  5. RAMBO is his nickname

do you expect him to get a squad number this season?

  6. Am so glad he chose us instead of manure. Fingers crossed he ends up scoring a hattrick against them on our way to the title. It also looks like we are going to have a really good team with lots of British lads playing in it. What will the press make of that.

  7. godd good, i like it, s.sanderson is he has good as people are saying, because to be honest i havent seen him play and dont know where he will fit in. As arsenl have a lot of up and coming stars such as Randell, Gibbs, Lansbury, hoyte merida etc , is wenger going to get rid of some of them, or are they simply not going to make it at Arsenal.

  8. I guess i was right about the little details could seal the deal and of coarse having Chuckle Brother Number 1 selling the club to him obviously had a positive effect on the deal then Lol

  9. Ramsey is number 30 for Cardiff, could get that number here.

There is a certain class about Arsenal.. unlike those cunting mancs

  10. Don’t care whether or not Ramsey lights up the world or not. Its just good to see some egg on Utd’s face. Why would they put it on their website BEFORE the deal was done? Idiots!

    Arsenal are puuuure class.

  11. seems like he was impressed by Wenger and our tatics after all .. :-) just nice to beat the Manc Scum to a player to be honest.. :-) good work JS..

  12. welcome hope you do well for the gunners

  13. lol chuckle brother haha
what a plank he must feel now!

  14. Class. Yes that was the difference. I cant believe Man Utd are complaining so much about Real Madrid and Ronaldo!

I remember them talking about Ruud Van Nistlerooy 6 months before signing him, the PSV director was fuming and that was one of the factors that ensured they lost out on the Arjen Robben deal.

What comes around goes around for those cunts.

  15. A real surprise for long suffering Arsenal fans!! Hope to have another Bigger surprise next year :- European Cup!!

  16. I think he will play all Carling cup games next season, and premier league games as an impact player like Walcott in his first season.
First seasons he will protected on wing untill he’s physical preparted to play on his prefered CM position

  17. Its fate he will score against United at some point ;)

You can win titles and titles, but United have no class at all. No wonder Sunu, Miquel, Ramsey rejected them..

  18. Fergie has publically courted players all the time from Ferdinand,Hargreaves,VanCuntelrooy, even Roy Keane said in his book that Fergie rung him, Stam said it also, exactly true , what goes around comes around !! unlucky..did they think that sending that little Goblin Cunt Neville would turn Ramseys head ?

  19. He dives a ford fiesta at present i was told, how long will that last ? Anyway am very happy he has decided to join the “Real DEAL”. A left footed player with alot of talent

  20. Carlos Vela suggesting that Dos Santos is using Sp*rs as a stepping stone, he just made the grade of Legend in my eyes, knows Arse are BIG and Sp*rs are a small team from essex…. Superb

  21. Ramsey agreeing to join us instead of the scum, and Vela calling the spuds a stepping stone to a bigger club for his mate. Been quite a good day hasn’t it

  22. To think Utd announced on their website last week that he was going to them…..If you look on their website this morning it says “Ramsey snubs Utd”….how sad is that. It also shows no class. No way would The Arsenal do that.

It seems the young lad also make his choice before meeting up with Arsene. Aaron chose wisely. Welcome aboard son.

I’m also warming to this Carlos Vela – on his mate going to the Totts he said “I hope things go well for him at Tottenham, that he gets the minutes he wasn’t given at Barcelona and that he shows what he can do.
“He is a very good player and let’s hope he can then move on to a better team.”
    Dont you just love it!!!!

  23. We already 1 up on united! :)

  24. I imagine Danny Friszman deserves some credit for this as well. The famed Private Jet was almost certainly his.

  25. I never thought we could pull this one off. Welcome Mr Ramsey, show us your skill give 100% and Gooners will worship you. I;m so glad we hve got him and excited to watch him play!!! I love our forigne brigade but its brilliant we have added a Britsh talent to our ranks. Now we have Theo, Aaron Ramsey, Lansbury, Wiltshire, Freeman as well as Randall, some of the best English/ British talent coming through…..Love it!!! We got Aaron ramsey, We got Aaron Ramsey!!!

  26. i thought of it when i read that he will meet arsene in person at basel, arsene is a magician when he talks to players like aaron.same things happened when we got cesc, merida and walcott.

  27. Are you sure Ramsey will be given the no.30 shirt as Troare has that? Wouldnt he be given one of the free numbers e.g. 16 or 8 or 12?

  28. How mutch will he get to play next season????? Is he gonna be sent to loan or is he gonna come off the bench or is he gonna rot in the reservsteam?????

  29. Also nordtveit chose us over the manure, watched Ramsey in lots of matches he is a class act but I wuld be surprised to see him make many appearances in the prem.

  30. I’ve only seen Ramsay play twice, both times he had a great touch, and good ball control.

Anyone have more information on what type of player he is, and what position he could play for us?

  31. It’s great news.I’m happy we won the race. Can any one send a link
so I can see how good he is.He must be top class to sign for a team
    like Arsenal.
Arsenal is only for a top players!!

  32. is ramsey a central midfielder or a winger? cos diffrent reports say diffrent things.
    great job JS

  33. is there any footage of him?

  34. Great article as always Jay, your site is one of my favs.

From what I have seen, Ramsey looks like a talented kid. Turning down Man U also shows he is a clever lad.

Have you guys seen the piss take Le Grove site? Its funny.

    http://lewank.blogs.io/lewank.mht

  35. Jay, how comes my post isn’t included?

  36. I very much doubt we would pay 5m for someone to ‘rot in the reserves’

I expect him to make 5-10 prem appearances (mainly as sub), and feature in all domestic cup games.

He has good control and some skill, and also quite a few championship games under his belt – that should not be forgotten

  37. 1-0 to the Arsenal, and we haven’t even kicked off the season yet :-)
Best thing is that they were claiming it was a done deal! How red faced they must feel now, what a great shame…NOT hahahahaha!

  38. Congrats on the post yesterday mate, looks like we did “Impress” him :-)

  39. I’m just happy as a million dollar man today wow wow wow wow . you know what gooner i just heard the news now i was very bussy today and i didnt get the time to see it untill now wow wow wow wow

  40. because without Ronaldo, Manure are a pile of shit – correction Manuure is a pile of Shit

  41. I’m waiting……..for some pillock at OT to say “we only wanted him for the reserves” Well, you won’t even have him for that!!1 It’s a triumph for common sense. Good luck to the lad!

  42. I think while Rosicky is still struggling with injury we might see Ramsey on the left wing during pre-season. hopefully he will show enough to get a few starts in the prem. Im sure the one reason he chose Arsenal was Wengers development of Walcott, and an assurance that he wont be loaned out again. I doubt Ramsey will be thrown into the reserves either so lets give the kid time and let him settle in at Emirates.

  43. Thank God they sent Neville to try and seal the deal. That ugly manc b*st*rd would scare any potential signing away!

  44. Oh, and with 7 subs next year, he would almost be guaranteed a bench spot a lot of the time. That ought to increase his appearance for us.

  45. do you expect him to get a squad number this season?

Mark said this on June 10, 2008 at 1:19 pm

He will almost certainly get Cup action and with 7 subs, it is more likely he will get chances. Denilson, Randall, Vela, Gibbs, Ramsey, they are all likely to making that bench warm and it all adds up. So he’ll get a number.

  46. I have never seen him play before, but if all that’s been said about him is true then I think that he could be Fabregas’ replacement within the next 3 or so years when he leaves. Let’s hope he’s the real deal.

  47. The reason for the differing reports on where he plays is simply because he can play almost anywhere! He played in central midfield, on both wings, behind the striker and as a fullback for Cardiff last season.

  48. we fly him to switzerland to meet the boss while man utd give him a day with gary neville at the training ground. no contest.

  49. Pete i was just about to say that. He is a very versatile midfielder than can also play at the back. I guess this is why he is being compared to a young Gerrard as he can play anywhere! Definately think he will get a number too. For me though this season is all about Walcott, can he make the step up and become consistant cos if he does then wow he will set the league alight!

  50. The squad numbers that are available are- 1,8,12,14,18,23,28.Armand Traore has the #30 shirt.

  51. Exactly Noel, he wouldnt have signed for us unless Wenger has promised him first team chances.

Having a player who can play any where is always useful!

  52. I will be looking forward to seeing him next season!
I know this is a little off subject but is class none the less. Does anyone else feel that Vela is now already a legend? His comments about Dos Santos at Spurs and saying “I hope he does well so that he can move to a better team” Classic absolutely classic, should be the second name on the team sheet behind Cesc!!!

  53. You think this will announced on Arsenal.com?

  54. The real reason is with Arsenal he will have a career as a welsh international, unlike Giggs who cannot be classed as a legend for Wales as he was not allowed to play for them that often – & hardly did anything – (Man utd saying he is injured but then being fit for his club a few days later). This is why I fear Rooney is at the wrong club & must move to make his name for England. Also he gets away with a lot with MU but the same rules do not apply when playing for England, ie. fair play does not exist in the english football as a certain club gets favours when needed. AND THATS THE TRUTH!

  55. Its being reported that he will do his medical in the next 24hrs!This is th reason we let Spuds have a free run at Bostock.

  56. welcome Ramsey , you have a greater future with us and u have made a wise decision and fuck ( pardon my language) the stupid Arsenal.com website that site is shit they are not always reliable at least they should have this news on the homepage now thanks to J for his nice blog I hope he decides to go dot com soon …all football lovers are invited to Join soccerfanbase.com for the best of football news update and forum discussion

  57. “You think this will announced on Arsenal.com?”

    Vela badmouthing Spurs? Yeah definately.

  58. The deal will be announced on Arsenal.com when its fully completed. We are not pricks like United who announce things before its done.

I will catch up with soem Cardiff fans, and do a full bio on him in the next day or so

  59. J mate you gotta try and find q big quote so you can run the Vela slates Spurs story, i can’t get enough of it! I swear it’s been ages since one of our players did that (apart from Campbell who did the biggest insult to them) :-)

  60. and pires!

  61. welcome ramsey…

  62. Sanderson, a full bio for Ramsay would be a great read, cant wait!

  63. no problem it will be up tomorrow afternoon!

  64. J, How do you think his signing will affect Langsbury, Merida, Gibbs, Randall, Wishere?? I certainly feel that Merida or Randall could overtake Denilson in the peckking order next season, hes gone backwards this season and is always injured…

and around how many games do you think Randall will feature in next season, im really excited about him, he put in a great performance against Sunderland…

  65. when i read about how ramsey negotiate with everton, man utd and arsenal, the way it went i know he will not choose man utd because fergie didn’t see him and his family. so it leave us and everton where arsenal clear fav. nway, ramsey signing won’t mean other like merida, gibbs or randall have to leave. he still 17 after all so more likely will play in carling cup. prem league rule for sub change next season, from 5 to 7 so he maybe will get some prem league match. from what i’ve seen, ramsey is rosicky type player but he more comfortable on the right side. he can also play center role like fabregas or behind striker. i would conclude he an all round midfielder.

  66. Anybody getting a Vela shirt,Classic. I hope Ramsey is good inshallah

  67. The proposed signing of Ramsey looks like good news, and is certainly one in the eye for Fergie.

Sending Neville to impress a potential young signing is like us sending Justin Hoyte to do the same. And that’s not meant as a slur on Hoyte either.

If Fergie really wanted to seal the deal with Ramsey, either he would have made himself available at Old Trafford to meet the player and his family, or he’d have arranged a private jet – like we did – to wherever Fergie is currently on holiday.

    Next!

  68. ryan giggs will slap alex fucguson face hahah!!!

  69. This puts a big question mark for the future of Gibbs and even Eboue. After we lacked wingers last season, now it seems as we have them in abundance.

Hleb is on his way out but look at all the wingers we have: Rosicky and Vela will cover the left wing while Nasri and Walcott will cover the right. After that we still have Ramsey and Traore (must go on loan) plus Merida as well as Eduardo can play there. I can imagine a Carling Cup side that looks like this:

    ———–Mannone———–
    Djourou–Song–Nordveit–Traore
    Ramsey–Merida–Lansbury–Vela
    ———Walcott–Nick——–

Song and Djourou would be the oldest ones at 21. But I think that the first team will look like this when everybody are fit:
    ———-Almunia———–
    Sagna–Toure–Gallas–Clichy
    Nasri–Cesc–Denilson–Rosicky
    ———Ade–RvP————
Bench: Fabianski, Song, Gilberto, Diaby, Ramsey, Walcott, Vela

It’s hard to know about the CB and DM positions. I fully expect us to buy a player like Zapata (or somebody else) and Song might become a starter in either position.

Btw. I think that Ramsey will feature the same way this season as Walcott and Nick did last season. He will play a big part as he is only a year younger than Theo.

  70. What happened to the 2nd part of the interview with Steve Rowley, Sanderson?

  71. just about to ask the same thing simplyfm… Great read and news as always J.

  72. Um…Bendtner is guaranteed atleast to be on the bench Stone.

I can even see Bendtner starting with a tremendous preseason form.

  73. Decent signing but i don’t think hes quite the player everyone seems to be saying he is YET. Hes above average by his age… way above average, but i hope if he gets in front of our other young mids its through merit, not just because we spent cash on him. Personally i think Wilshire is better, and Randall and Merida are probably on the same level, Emmanuel-Thomas and Landsbury will get there too.

  74. Personally Stone i dont see Denilson starting in midfield with Cesc as they are to similar and Denilson isnt physically strong enough yet to play the CDM role would prefer to see Diaby though although i rate Denilson.

  75. I agree John V, they are very similiar. I would prefer to see Diaby in there as well. I honestly dont think Arsene will buy a DMF. I think he will just put someone we have in this squad in there. Who that is, i dont know.

On a side note, how much is David Villa’s price tag gonna sky rocket after his hat trick for Spain? Congrats to Cesc too for his late goal.

  76. Hi New on this board
I absolutely love the site. Its great. IMO i think you should make a page which is just a forum. So that you can like talk about anything and isnt related to the article. Does that make sense.

  77. Better than Bostock?

  78. I want to see song in the Flamini role, but i doubt this would happen as Wenger sees Songs future at CD… We should give him pre-season and see how it goes for him. He certainly has the attributes… Tough tackler, defensive, not often injured like Diaby and hes powerful. He was great for Cameroon in the ACN in that role, he could also always fill in at the back if required.

  79. Part two of the Rowley article now added for everybody who asked

    http://youngguns.wordpress.com/2008/06/10/arsenal%e2%80%99s-chief-scout-steve-rowley-interview-part-2/

  80. I’d like to say now, Emmanuel-Thomas won’t make it with us. He’s tall and strong, but he isn’t particularly quick, his touch is woeful and he’s only playing regularly because of his height and size.

I’ll be VERY surprised if we even see him in the CC..

  81. hahaha. my spurs mate (yeah i know) said they have much better welsh and mexican talent. i just laughed and told him the facts. spurs are shit.

  82. “his touch is woeful and he’s only playing regularly because of his height and size.”

Are you taking the p*ss? Ok no he isnt the fastest but hes got a great touch, good dribbler, good first touch, good passer, you really can’t have watched him too closely if you think hes got a poor touch.

Give him a chance, hes only just gone 17 this season, hes looked good in my opinion and the statistics stack in his favor as well. I rate him thats all im saying, if he keeps on progressing like he is then he’ll be a good player, not necessarily with us but somewhere.
