The Reason Why Aaron Ramsey Chose Arsenal

Cardiff City winger Aaron Ramsey has told the club he will accept the contract offered to to him by Arsenal, with the move expected to be completed in the next two days, after both teams have concluded negotiations.
Steve Rowley and Ken Friar met the prospect in London on Friday, where terms were agreed for his transfer, before the Gunners arranged for him and his family to be flown first class to Switzerland to see Arsene Wenger. Whilst there Wenger took time out to answer Aaron concerns, as well assure him he would not be loaned out and his development would be best served in his capable hands.
He will now travel to the Shenley based training centre to undergo a medical examination, before penning terms on a five year contract, once both clubs have finalised the deal. Cardiff have confirmed they will not be taking the player back on loan, but were happy with the financial package which see’s Ramsey join the Gunners for £5 million.
“Aaron did me the courtesy of ringing me to let me know his position,” said Chairman Peter Ridsdale. “It’s a £5m deal – and on a straight cash basis it was the best option on the table.
“We knew he had talent and clearly Premiership clubs knew there was a talent there. Aaron’s still very young and from our perspective it was far better not to lose him or still have him on loan. But that’s not to be, the lad’s made his decision.”
Manchester United and Everton also had offers accepted for his transfer, but he turned down the chance to join Everton, leaving just United and Arsenal in the running. United sent Gary Neville to try and tempt the youngster, but the Ramsey family wanted to meet senior management staff to discuss the deal, however it seems they did not take the player seriously enough, and now Wenger has jumped the queue.
So it seems Man Utd took for granted his potential signing, and Arsenal treated the player with respect throughout and have suitably impressed.
Welcome aboard Aaron Ramsey, you had a luck escape there…

Spot on Sanderson, it was about “impressing” him just like you said yesterday. Arsenal pulled out all the stops, while Man Utd were arrogant enough to issue a statement about his signing before finishing the deal.

Am so glad he chose us instead of manure. Fingers crossed he ends up scoring a hattrick against them on our way to the title. It also looks like we are going to have a really good team with lots of British lads playing in it. What will the press make of that.

godd good, i like it, s.sanderson is he has good as people are saying, because to be honest i havent seen him play and dont know where he will fit in. As arsenl have a lot of up and coming stars such as Randell, Gibbs, Lansbury, hoyte merida etc , is wenger going to get rid of some of them, or are they simply not going to make it at Arsenal.
THE GOONER said this on June 10, 2008 at 1:21 pm
I guess i was right about the little details could seal the deal and of coarse having Chuckle Brother Number 1 selling the club to him obviously had a positive effect on the deal then Lol

Don’t care whether or not Ramsey lights up the world or not. Its just good to see some egg on Utd’s face. Why would they put it on their website BEFORE the deal was done? Idiots!

Class. Yes that was the difference. I cant believe Man Utd are complaining so much about Real Madrid and Ronaldo!
I remember them talking about Ruud Van Nistlerooy 6 months before signing him, the PSV director was fuming and that was one of the factors that ensured they lost out on the Arjen Robben deal.
What comes around goes around for those cunts.

To think Utd announced on their website last week that he was going to them…..If you look on their website this morning it says “Ramsey snubs Utd”….how sad is that. It also shows no class. No way would The Arsenal do that.
It seems the young lad also make his choice before meeting up with Arsene. Aaron chose wisely. Welcome aboard son.
I’m also warming to this Carlos Vela – on his mate going to the Totts he said “I hope things go well for him at Tottenham, that he gets the minutes he wasn’t given at Barcelona and that he shows what he can do.
“He is a very good player and let’s hope he can then move on to a better team.”

He has good control and some skill, and also quite a few championship games under his belt – that should not be forgotten

I think while Rosicky is still struggling with injury we might see Ramsey on the left wing during pre-season. hopefully he will show enough to get a few starts in the prem. Im sure the one reason he chose Arsenal was Wengers development of Walcott, and an assurance that he wont be loaned out again. I doubt Ramsey will be thrown into the reserves either so lets give the kid time and let him settle in at Emirates.
Frichie said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:02 pm

AusGunner said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Oh, and with 7 subs next year, he would almost be guaranteed a bench spot a lot of the time. That ought to increase his appearance for us.
Ausgunner said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:07 pm
do you expect him to get a squad number this season?
Mark said this on June 10, 2008 at 1:19 pm
He will almost certainly get Cup action and with 7 subs, it is more likely he will get chances. Denilson, Randall, Vela, Gibbs, Ramsey, they are all likely to making that bench warm and it all adds up. So he’ll get a number.
Samuel said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I have never seen him play before, but if all that’s been said about him is true then I think that he could be Fabregas’ replacement within the next 3 or so years when he leaves. Let’s hope he’s the real deal.
Tom said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:10 pm
The reason for the differing reports on where he plays is simply because he can play almost anywhere! He played in central midfield, on both wings, behind the striker and as a fullback for Cardiff last season.
Pete said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:12 pm
we fly him to switzerland to meet the boss while man utd give him a day with gary neville at the training ground. no contest.
noel reynolds said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Pete i was just about to say that. He is a very versatile midfielder than can also play at the back. I guess this is why he is being compared to a young Gerrard as he can play anywhere! Definately think he will get a number too. For me though this season is all about Walcott, can he make the step up and become consistant cos if he does then wow he will set the league alight!
Clacko the Gooner said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:14 pm

I know this is a little off subject but is class none the less. Does anyone else feel that Vela is now already a legend? His comments about Dos Santos at Spurs and saying “I hope he does well so that he can move to a better team” Classic absolutely classic, should be the second name on the team sheet behind Cesc!!!
Clacko the Gooner said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:24 pm
You think this will announced on Arsenal.com?
Joshua said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:30 pm
The real reason is with Arsenal he will have a career as a welsh international, unlike Giggs who cannot be classed as a legend for Wales as he was not allowed to play for them that often – & hardly did anything – (Man utd saying he is injured but then being fit for his club a few days later). This is why I fear Rooney is at the wrong club & must move to make his name for England. Also he gets away with a lot with MU but the same rules do not apply when playing for England, ie. fair play does not exist in the english football as a certain club gets favours when needed. AND THATS THE TRUTH!
The Truth said this on June 10, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Its being reported that he will do his medical in the next 24hrs!This is th reason we let Spuds have a free run at Bostock.

J, How do you think his signing will affect Langsbury, Merida, Gibbs, Randall, Wishere?? I certainly feel that Merida or Randall could overtake Denilson in the peckking order next season, hes gone backwards this season and is always injured…
and around how many games do you think Randall will feature in next season, im really excited about him, he put in a great performance against Sunderland…
Matt said this on June 10, 2008 at 3:31 pm
when i read about how ramsey negotiate with everton, man utd and arsenal, the way it went i know he will not choose man utd because fergie didn’t see him and his family. so it leave us and everton where arsenal clear fav. nway, ramsey signing won’t mean other like merida, gibbs or randall have to leave. he still 17 after all so more likely will play in carling cup. prem league rule for sub change next season, from 5 to 7 so he maybe will get some prem league match. from what i’ve seen, ramsey is rosicky type player but he more comfortable on the right side. he can also play center role like fabregas or behind striker. i would conclude he an all round midfielder.

arsenal man said this on June 10, 2008 at 3:52 pm
The proposed signing of Ramsey looks like good news, and is certainly one in the eye for Fergie.
Sending Neville to impress a potential young signing is like us sending Justin Hoyte to do the same. And that’s not meant as a slur on Hoyte either.
If Fergie really wanted to seal the deal with Ramsey, either he would have made himself available at Old Trafford to meet the player and his family, or he’d have arranged a private jet – like we did – to wherever Fergie is currently on holiday.

This puts a big question mark for the future of Gibbs and even Eboue. After we lacked wingers last season, now it seems as we have them in abundance.
Hleb is on his way out but look at all the wingers we have: Rosicky and Vela will cover the left wing while Nasri and Walcott will cover the right. After that we still have Ramsey and Traore (must go on loan) plus Merida as well as Eduardo can play there. I can imagine a Carling Cup side that looks like this:
———–Mannone———–
Djourou–Song–Nordveit–Traore
Ramsey–Merida–Lansbury–Vela
———Walcott–Nick——–
Song and Djourou would be the oldest ones at 21. But I think that the first team will look like this when everybody are fit:
———-Almunia———–
Sagna–Toure–Gallas–Clichy
Nasri–Cesc–Denilson–Rosicky
———Ade–RvP————
Bench: Fabianski, Song, Gilberto, Diaby, Ramsey, Walcott, Vela
It’s hard to know about the CB and DM positions. I fully expect us to buy a player like Zapata (or somebody else) and Song might become a starter in either position.
Btw. I think that Ramsey will feature the same way this season as Walcott and Nick did last season. He will play a big part as he is only a year younger than Theo.

Decent signing but i don’t think hes quite the player everyone seems to be saying he is YET. Hes above average by his age… way above average, but i hope if he gets in front of our other young mids its through merit, not just because we spent cash on him. Personally i think Wilshire is better, and Randall and Merida are probably on the same level, Emmanuel-Thomas and Landsbury will get there too.
Johnny Maverik said this on June 10, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Personally Stone i dont see Denilson starting in midfield with Cesc as they are to similar and Denilson isnt physically strong enough yet to play the CDM role would prefer to see Diaby though although i rate Denilson.
JohnV said this on June 10, 2008 at 6:13 pm
I agree John V, they are very similiar. I would prefer to see Diaby in there as well. I honestly dont think Arsene will buy a DMF. I think he will just put someone we have in this squad in there. Who that is, i dont know.
On a side note, how much is David Villa’s price tag gonna sky rocket after his hat trick for Spain? Congrats to Cesc too for his late goal.

I want to see song in the Flamini role, but i doubt this would happen as Wenger sees Songs future at CD… We should give him pre-season and see how it goes for him. He certainly has the attributes… Tough tackler, defensive, not often injured like Diaby and hes powerful. He was great for Cameroon in the ACN in that role, he could also always fill in at the back if required.

I’d like to say now, Emmanuel-Thomas won’t make it with us. He’s tall and strong, but he isn’t particularly quick, his touch is woeful and he’s only playing regularly because of his height and size.
I’ll be VERY surprised if we even see him in the CC..

Are you taking the p*ss? Ok no he isnt the fastest but hes got a great touch, good dribbler, good first touch, good passer, you really can’t have watched him too closely if you think hes got a poor touch.
Give him a chance, hes only just gone 17 this season, hes looked good in my opinion and the statistics stack in his favor as well. I rate him thats all im saying, if he keeps on progressing like he is then he’ll be a good player, not necessarily with us but somewhere.
