L’Equipe - Samir Nasri To Join Arsenal Later Today

Respected French sports newspaper L’Equipe claim Marseille play maker Samir Nasri will sign for Arsenal tomorrow afternoon, before he returns to France’s Clairefontaine training camp to prepare for the forthcoming European Championships.
Young Guns reported earlier in the week about the possible transfer in the comment sections, however since then Marseille based sports newspaper La Provence have confirmed the transfer will take place for a fee of €17.5 million or around £12.5 million pounds. L’Equipe claims it could be as little as €15 million, with the player due in London tomorrow for a medical and personal terms.
Only recently Samir signed a new long term contract to 2012, but it later emerged that included in the deal was a release fee between the aforementioned €15-17 million Euro. He is expected to be the replacement for out going Alexander Hleb, which Young Guns speculated could be in talks with FC Barcelona. So despite featuring as an attacking midfielder, Wenger it seems will play Nasri on the wings as he has done with Robert Pires, Alex Hleb, and more recently Tomas Rosicky.
Nasri is expected in London early tomorrow morning, where he will meet with Arsenal officals to agree personal terms, and undergo a medical at the Shenley based training centre. He will then travel to the Emirates Stadium where he will be shown around, before having pictures taken for the clubs official website. His day will end as he flys back to France at 19.30 hours for French national team training.
Even the Samir’s fans claim he is on his way to Arsenal !

Brilliant! Always like Nasri. His style is special and rarely do you see a player play the game with such elegance and comfort. He’s got skills and a good footballing brain but he doesn’t use them to showboat like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Quaresma etc. Reminds me of Zidane.
If he progresses properly I’ve no doubt that he’ll be world player of the year in a few years.
M said this on May 20, 2008 at 11:17 pm
great news jay thanks for making my day., i watched nasri a lot and this is great signing im not sure he would be that good of a winger but lets just hope tomorrow afternoon arsenal.com will be officially declaring this deal true.
P- M said this on May 20, 2008 at 11:19 pm
If this is correct then well done on the research. I am not quite sure how I feel about Nasri. Another creative midfielder playing on the wing. I am crying out for an out and out wide player.
Anyway, Arsene Knows.

Nasri would be an absolutely fantastic signing. This signing (especially before the Euros) will scare life out of the rest of the premiership.

J sanderson, quality blog man, followed from a distance here for awhile. Live in france and saw the l’equipe article and you had a quick beat on it. kudos.
Quick question, what do you think this does to the Ben Arfa possibility. rumours were pretty strong on him too. I actually would prefer Ben Arfa, but Nasri is a really class player too. Just not a wide left winger type. Doubt will get both, you?
Arip09 said this on May 20, 2008 at 11:31 pm
Thank you Arip09 and welcome to Young Guns.
Reports in France and from what i have heared is Ben Arfa will be a replacement for Nasri at Marseille, as he said he wanted to stay in France.
J.Sanderson said this on May 20, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Let’s not get too excited yet. L’Equipe does have a history of sensationalism.
I am hopeful - but I maintain a player in the mould of Ben Arfa, ie a traditional winger, would have been better.

J.Sanderson said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:15 am
yo JS since he is the replacement for hleb this must mean wenger will sign another creative midfielder and a flamini type. if hleb goes barce then we should do a swap deal involving yaya toure. i thin we should also go for aquilani as well. see wenger was right we don’t need big names we need big players and dats what we’re getting.
JamJam said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:16 am
Maybe mate. Le Grove reported the other day that Wenger said somewhere he wont sign a direct flamini replacement.
whilst i dont know how true that is, it wouldnt suprise me. I would expected 1 more deal, and thats a central defender
J.Sanderson said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:18 am
Yeah he did say that Sanderson, said he had Diaby, Denilson and Song to play there already. What Wenger says and what he does have always been two different things though!
I’m also not sold on the Hlebs definately leaving stories either!
Pete said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:23 am
I feel we need more than just Nasri and a Centre back to challenge for all honors next year we need a good 4 players to challenge. Nasri, a left winger, flamini replacement and a centre back.
JamJam said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:23 am
The most annoying thing about Arsenal IMO is that if/when we sign Nasri, the offical website will be so slow in confirming it
J.Sanderson said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:25 am
yh the arsenal website always takes ages to say whats going on with transfer news.
Nasri will get number 8, 12, 14, 16, 18, 23 or 28 when he comes and im guessing those are the numbers the other new arrivals will have to pick from. Squad numbers is somethig that makes the summer so good aswell because you don’t know whos gonna change and what the new players will get it’s bare exciting lol
JamJam said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:29 am
I would expect number 8.
Vela should get 21, with Fabianski getting Lehmann’s 1
J.Sanderson said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:31 am
Almunia would get the no 1 jersey surely.
Pete said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:35 am
Fabianski getting the No 1 jersey?!?!? Controversial JS…
I expect another 2 signings IF AW signs Nasri.
Sniff said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:36 am
oh isit Fabianski is getting number 1. i wonder what Almunia will have to say about that. Do you think Walcott and Bendtner will keep there high sqaud numbers or do you think wenger will give them more of a 1st team number?
also what number do you think Merida will get once he comes back?
JamJam said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:37 am
Maybe, he has made 24 his own number mate, so i would expect he would keep it. Clichy didnt want 3 because he felt the 22 shirt would be unique to him.
J.Sanderson said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:37 am
I think Vela will get the No 14 jersey.
Sniff said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:38 am
no way will Vela get the number 14 jersey. i think he should get number 12 or 18 or 21 because that was his number at osasuna
JamJam said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:43 am
if we sign him and keep helb imagine our forward line
alan said this on May 21, 2008 at 12:43 am
I doubt a striker would get Henrys old number, Wenger doesn’t work that way. For instance Freddy got Wrightys 8, Gallas got Bergkamps 10. He thinks it gives unecessary comparisions if a player of the same position gets the old number of a club legend. Its unusual for the first choice GK to want anything other than the no. 1 jersey. Being the number 1 means much more to a GK than any other squad number to any other position. Even if Almunia keeps his number for whatever reason, I doubt anyone else gets the no. 1 instead, because Almunia is the no. 1 and it would send the wrong message however small Almunia himself feels it to be.

I think Smair Nasri will get the n.10 from Gallas, and make a lot of gooners happy.
just wondering wont his arrival cause Walcot more problems getting a first team spot?
I can’t see Nasri or Rosicky playing as a subs for the club, but that is Wenger’s problem with players like Gibbs and Wilshere knocking on the door too.
I can now go to sleep feeling happy after being assured that something big will happen tomorrow and thats thanks to you.

Guys, one at a time… If Wenger is to buy anyone who is going to play in Euro 08, it’ll be before the tournament starts, before price escalates.
By Euro 08, you’ll roughly know who we wont be buying.

Wait? People actually thought Zarate was coming? I know J is a young’n but seriously you’d think most of you would have worked out how the transfer window works.
Great news on AW getting his creative player, an excellent choice! He is not Hleb’s replacement, he is still on our payroll. IF he leaves, and the party line has never changed from AW wanting him to stay, then it is fair game for Theo or a signing, but Nasri isn’t his replacement.
Keep up the good work J.

Aulas has been quoted as saying we have made contact with him about Ben Arfa. He also said he’d prefer to keep him in France, but I think thats Aulas being crafty, he also said if the offers are the same he’d sell him to Marseiles, basicaly hes trying to get the price up like he always does. Strangely though he also said L’om have yet to make contact with him, so that seems to make the rest rather a mute point in my eyes!
Pete said this on May 21, 2008 at 9:41 am
Carlos Vela already have the number 29 shirt reserved for him. That was the number he would have had if he was recalled in January, and that is what he will wear the first time in arsenal.
Otherwise i believe that it’s possible that Randall takes on the 26 if Bendtner is changing, and Barazite gets the number 28. I just thinks those number would fit nicely to their names on the back of the shirt
Lurtzz said this on May 21, 2008 at 10:17 am

I want Ben Arfa as well but if Nasri comes I think the chances are very slim. But what a dream come true it would be!! First I didn’t want Hleb to leave but now I really want him to leave. I hope will get at least 20 million for him and get Hatem Ben Arfa with that money… and the cherry on the cake would be if we could land Miguel Veloso as well!! I don’t agree with people thinking Wenger will add a centre back… He already sad that Song will play as centre back in the future! I haven’t heard him say that either Senderos or Djourou will not be staying… SO TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO THINK WENGER WILL BUY A CENTRE BACK!! What makes you think he will do that?!!

Neal S said this on May 21, 2008 at 10:43 am
I’m not sure whether Nasri is the player we’re looking for. He’s a fantastic player and could definitely add something to our squad. However the true question of this summer is can we add players to our squad not replace our players that has had a great season and that are now thinking of leaving. I don’t want Arsenal to start its rebuliding again. I think we must keep Hleb. Thinking of all the injuries Rosicky has had, Eboue, Walcott and Hleb will be too thin to match a squad like Man U:s for a whole season. Honestly, that has been way too evident this season and I can’t stand it another one. We definitely have the quality, but we need to dig deep now to find that killing mentality that we hade 03-04.
Then we played fantastic football with a killing mentality. Now it’s just back to fantastic football.
A dream would be to see YAYA AT ARSENAL! But i guess that will never happen!
I might be the first swedish guy who decides to have a few words at this blog..

Well, he’s a clever young footballer in the mould of the once great Didier Deschamps. He is said to be an intelligent football with good ball winning expertise as well as a good passing range. He currently plays for Paris Saint Germain as has featured int heir first team for the last 2 - 3 seasons having previously come through the PSG youth academy.
His Wiki states:
Of all players likely to hold a long-term future with PSG, Chantome looks a good chance to retain his spot and develop further into a player of real class. His call-up to France’s U/21 squad in October of 2006 is testament to the regard in which he is held by the FFF.
And that’s a major reason why Arsene is keen on bringing him in. The fee is unknown but not believed to be a huge fee…

I read l’Equipe here in France this morning. Usually pretty reliable. it had a big article about Nasri, including long speculation about how he will play with Fabregas. There was also an article saying Ben Arfa is definitely his replacement at Marseille. Aulas says he is open to the transfer, and apparently at the end of their last match, Ben Arfa was very keen to find out if marseille had won and were in the Champs league. We can forget him, for now anyway!

is he left footed? the goal he scored a few days back was with his left i know that.

Frenchies
Chantome would be the typical Wenger-buy. Not a very known player for people outside france, but with the right abillitys. He’s is kind of an Flamini type, works like hell, and tackles good, and has solid technique.
Nasri would of course be great!
Rosicky/Hleb - Chantome - Fabregas - Nasri
Hleb is a great player but the softest touch ever! But I prefer Rosciky. A lot more efficient player.

acoording to this:

the Nasri deal is far from complete, it has quotes from his agent saying there is an Arsenal offer but there are other offers too, and nothing has been decided yet.

i think this guy is a good player . hleb is a good player but does not score enough goals so i think the combination of nasri and hleb will bring more goals i wish he playes like pires did b’se its what we are missing at the moment. we dont score enough goals from midfield

Looks like his agent wants more money..
Bobby Reds said this on May 21, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Yea i just read that the agent has said that they have received other offers. Well i don’t believe that, i think he is doing the typical agent bit of we have a good offer but want a bit more so suddenly now more people want him. The only other club that i have heard were interested in him was Lyon and that was because Marseilles wanted Ben Arfa. We will have to see what happens but i still think we will sign Nasri and Ben Arfa will go to Marseilles.
Clacko the Gooner said this on May 21, 2008 at 3:44 pm
This is great news for us! Nasri Is a talented player and you can see for urself on youtube what i’m talking about!!
Also I have it on good knowledge that we will also be signing some other top class players, my friend in the reserves says that the eto’o link is VERY strong! also Diego looks quite promising! in addition..wenger will sign sankhare and sakho of PSG! this is all definate! remeba who told u 1st!! *T.G*
*T.G* said this on May 21, 2008 at 3:49 pm
tommy brown: there is no way santa cruz is even being considered by the team, let alone going to be playing for us. Arsenal have a terrible relationship with Blackburn and that Fergie-whipping-boy manager of theirs. Kompany is like Frey, just because we are linked with him every summer doesn’t mean we’ve bought him does it? It’s like newspapers think about how to second guess AW’s ability to find random prospects and use FM as the easiest way of finding these names.
Senderos is staying and so is Eboue. Hleb, for now, is still an Arsenal player although it seems likely he’ll go. Hoyte and Djorou also seem likely to leave.
Anyone actually know anything about this PSG fella? I always find myself sceptical of players who have been battling relegation all season: if they were worthy of CL football at Arsenal then why the hell do their teams do so badly with them in the side? Yeah, I know that there are examples of this not being true (Tevez for example, and the Valencia team) but in general I’m not filled with confidence buying from the botton quarter of league tables.

Does your ‘friend’ in the reserves have long, intimate talks with Wenger about his transfer strategies?
Wenger won’t buy Eto’o….remember who told you first!!
We better not let Nasri slip through our fingers, it would be extremely frustrating if this transfer didn’t come to fruition.
Angelo said this on May 21, 2008 at 3:58 pm
TG: You can’t even spell properly and yet I am supposed to trust you when you say we are buying Samuel Eto’o even though the manager has expected RVP to be like a ‘new signing’, Vela to take up Eduardo’s role all while Nikky B and Theo continue to grow as great strikers?
All my trust is in you.
Samuel said this on May 21, 2008 at 3:59 pm
In response to Samuel–Sankhare’ And Sakho are TWO WORLD CLASS YOUNGSTERS!! Both in the first team at PSG and look set to have very bright future’s ahead of them!! Check youtube for Sankhare and im sure u will be impressed! The kid has flair, technique and most of all TALENT! enough said…Sakho on the other hand is very talented defensivly and has been likend to Thuram in his playing style!

Meanwhile, Arsenal have also handed a trial to Ghanaian starlet Tawrick Jibril.
The 16-year-old is currently with Hearts of Oak and has been linked with Atletico Madrid.
Jibril will link-up with Arsenal in July and will hope to make an impression on Wenger.

Samuel said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Im having difficulty understanding what it is that i have mis-spelt samuel??Are u not familiar with internet slang and the shortening of word’s like “yourself” to “urself”??? Come along now sammy boy!!! We are all GOONERS here!!!We all want the same things!! And as for my friend in reserves…he plays for the club….he trains everyday….he hears rumours first hand….nufff said springs to mind…???
*T.G* said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:04 pm
TG: Ok, I’ve played fm08 as well. So who’s this supposed source in the reserves who found AW’s list?
Samuel said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Samuel: Not to sound like someone who has been caught out playing the fibbing game or anything!!!…But obviously for the fact my mate told me in confidence I aint exactly gonna say his name! Although it isn’t really a biggie, players are liable to get a bollocking from the management at a club if they discuss any private internal affairs! I’m sure U can understand this! And yea FM08 is a great game!!
*T.G* said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Yes T.G, but being talented and French doesn’t mean that you are automatically going to get a transfer to Arsenal. And personally, I think your being naive in your attempt to persuade us that Eto’o will be wearing an Arsenal shirt next season. Like I said, if Arsene consults 16 year old reserve players about his transfer targets then we are in a worse state than i thought.
Please, don’t disrespect my, and other Arsenal fan’s, intelligence by posting this loosely constructed, unfounded, and quite frankly lazy drivel.
Angelo said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:11 pm
TG: “urself is “yourself” spelt wrong. You even indicate you know it is in your post and yet you stay ignorant of the language. It’s not internet slang, it’s just proving you are stupid and yet you ask people to have faith in your words. I think when you stop ebing 13 you’ll realise that rarely do people write in such a horrible way, for example J doesn’t wrie his blog as if he doesn’t know the Englisg language.
Also, this is a blog dedicated to the Arsenal reserves, you think you can just get away with going, “Ummm… I know that one, you know, that trains?” Well bloody hell mate, he trains for the club does he? He’s THAT type of reserve? Unlike the ones that just sit around drinking tea and listening to Phil Collins? He must know we have signed Eto’o.
Samuel said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:15 pm
I actually think we should sell the guys that sit around listening to Phil Collins. Phil Collins just isn’t Arsenal class.

IN RESPONSE TO BOTH OF YOU NON-BELIEVERS! WHAT I REALLY FIND FUNNY IS THE FACT THAT YOU WOULD RATHER LISTEN TO THE BULLSHIT U READ ON SKY SPORTS NEWS THAN A FELLOW ARSENAL FAN WITH A RELIABLE SOURCE! WHAT I ALSO FIND FUNNY IS THE FACT THAT I HAVE NOT SAID THAT ETO’O OR DIEGO ARE DEFINATE SIGNINGS!!!BUT JUST THAT MY FRIEND HAS TOLD ME THAT THESE ARE SOME OF THE STRONG RUMOURS AROUND THE TRAINING GROUND!AND AS FOR THE TWO FRENCH YOUNGSTERS–A PLAYER NAMED GILES SUNU WHO PLAYS WITH MY MATE IS THE PERSON WHO PASSED ON THIS RUMOUR INITIALLY! HATE ME FOR THIS IF U LIKE…IM ONLY TRYING TO PASS ON MY KNOWLEDGE AS A FELLOW AND ORIGINAL ARSENAL FAN!

TG: That’s great and all that now you think Sunu is the all encompassing knowledge source of the transfers of the future but we are signing a french youth in the next 24 hours and you named two totally different players. If you coudln’t get that one right, why should we believe your ignorant capslock arse?
Also, you may not have been a gooner long, or even one used to reading the news but I don’t trust most newspaper outlets with their actual sources within the club or Myles Palmer and his premonitions but at least I knew the credentials of each. You are just some dude going “I have a friend who isn’t AW or Ken Friar, so obviously I know who they are on the phone to right now”. Seriously, do you not remember Palacio? Gunnerblog did an assessment of Barry as a possible flam replacement and the next day it made 2 papers. Last week I thought it 90% certain we were to sign HBA. Why the hell should we trust you? I trust BBC stories (not the gossip column) and arse.com announcements.
Samuel said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Ah, I accidentally mispelt. Oh noes. There is a lot of difference between that and intentionally making yourself sound like a moron. And then there is the annoying caps lock and silly homophobia. That helps everyone doesn’t it. If only we could purge the retards from the internet it would be a nice place for people to be. Although this is also true of life.
Samuel said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:29 pm
You do realize that the ‘BULLSHIT U READ ON SKY SPORTS NEWS’ is very similar to the bullshit you’re spouting. We have been linked with both Eto’o and Diego on a number of occasions in multiple forms of the media so to claim you are anymore authentic or trustworthy in your claims is pathetic. Get a grip T.G….and yeah caps lock makes you seem borderline retarded. True story

You hit the nail on the head mate!! You dont have to trust me—or should I say my source!!! Which is why i only said that this was what I have been told….I didn’t say anything is definate!! And by the way I was born in woolwhich arsenal…the original home of the club! I have been a supporter all 20 years of my life and there is no1 who can dispute my love and dedication to this club! No1!! As for you Sammy boy lol…your just a wind-up mate! I tell you what…how about a bet that Nasri doesn’t end up at arsenal but at least one of the player’s I have mentioned does??? Does that sound fair??? I’l give you some time to respond as I know you must be tired from sitting on ur computer all day since you saw the Sky Sports article that stated we were signing Nasri by this afternoon–waiting for conformation of this but instead only gettin a statement from his agent which clearly says that Nasri is not on his way to Arsenal!! So u go right ahead and carry on trying to hav a go at me my old mukka!! lol!! You are just anoter slave to the silly season rumour mill my friend! Don’t be mad at me for that lol!!
*T.G* said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Oh yeah and Pjanic is also another player who is rumoured to be joining! This would appear more likely to me as he is out of contract at Metz and due to the Bosnian link we have through Primorac could well mean he signs! Looks like a good player!!
*T.G* said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Angelo you are obviously Samuels Whipping Boy lol!! I think you will find that the BULLSHIT ON SKY SPORTS is much larger in size than the 5-6 names I have simply mentioned as rumours! I havn’t claimed us to 100% be signing any of these players sonny jimbob!!! U guys need to chill out lol!! We’re all fans here man! RELAX!!! This is all just funny to me!
*T.G* said this on May 21, 2008 at 4:44 pm
And there is where you went wrong TG, as Pjanic has just signed a three year deal with Metz back in November 2007, so how come he is out of contract? Perhaps some sort of a new ruling recently made up?
