Arsenal Target Assulin’s Agent Confirms Offers

Arsenal are reportedly set to raid Barcelona again for another play-maker, having previously taken Fran Merida Perez and Cesc Fabregas from the Catalan giants.

The player in question is Israeli midfielder Gai Assulin rated as one of the biggest prospects in world football, a classy right footed goalscoring winger, blessed with awesome pace and technical skills.

He started his career in the Beitar Tubruk youth ranks, however when he was just 12, his then coach Shlomo Scharf advised his parents to take him for try outs at Barcelona, they did, and Gai was accepted, he would then go on to play in various positions from striker, to winger and central midfield.

His amazing talents meant many of the top clubs in the world tried to pry him away from the Catalan Academy, with his agent claiming the club had turned down offers from Chelsea and Arsenal for his services, and in August 2007, Assulin graduated to the FC Barcelona B team, and was offered a new contract with a €20M buy-out clause.

In September 2005, aged just 16 he made his senior debut against Girona FC in the semi-final of the Copa Catalunya, playing 45 minutes, getting the attention of Frank Rijkaard and the other coaching staff.

With Barca B being relegated in the summer, it meant that in order to hold on to the biggest prospects they had to sign expensive professional deals and be involved in the first team, or risk being prised away, however with the club having a large squad of more established players, Assulin has again had to ply his trade in the clubs B team meaning that he soon become frustrated despite 5 goals in 9 games.

Gai is on the verge of being capped by Israel this week despite being just 16 years old, and agent Pini Zahavi admits that a few clubs have made offers for his services with the Gunners thought to be leading the race.

“It’s true that my offices has received some offers for the player.”

Assulin received Spanish citizenship in May, meaning that if Arsenal agreed a deal, he would be able to play straight away, meaning that a loan to Link club Salamanca seems unlikely.

  1. Shame, this must be really bad for Barca fans… they keep losing players to us! Fabregas, Merida, Miguel(well not directly from Barca) I’m not complaning though!

Whats the likliness of us getting him??

    Great Article!

  2. thanks mate, yeah i can see the fustration especially if it was them taking from us.

And i think there is a good chance, however he has an expensive contract.

  3. *Waits for Joan Laporta to moan about Arsenal snatching another gem away from them* ;)

  4. he’s only 16…

  5. who does he play like e.g. ronaldinho, messi,c.ronaldo, maradona, kaka

  6. He is more like Messi than the others, but to compare them is a little harsh.

  7. [...] J.Sanderson published an entertaining and interesting post on Arsenal Target Assulinâ [...]

  8. Have you seen the latest issue of Four Four Two? There is an interesting report on the youth matters at Barcelona. Mighty impressive list of players they’ve produced/scouted at very early age.

  9. Am i the only person noticing a pattern with Barca youngsters??
Haha, imagine if they kept taking our youngsters…

  10. we were linked with him ages ago, but he rejected us and Chelsea, as did Jose Carlos Terron, according to FCBarcelonaClan.com.

    I doubt we’ll get him. :(

  11. very gd article. How expensive would he be and r we leading the race 4 him or is chelsea because his agent apparently has close ties with chelsea

  12. how much would arsenal have to pay barcelona 4 assulin and is there a real good chance we can get him in the summer. GR8 article again mr Sanderson.

  14. I would love it if we were to sign him, but I highly doubt we will. I’d like to see us try for Giovanni Dos Santos though; reportedly, he is unhappy at Barcelona and they are trying to offload - he links up incredibly well with Vela for Mexico.

  15. With Pini Zahavi as his agent everything can/will happend.

  16. dos santos is overrated so much but the way its going maybe its a good idea

  17. I think we already have an awful lot of youngesters. For once I’d like Arsene to change his mindset and buy established players for positions where we are clearly struggling, centre back and wingers, for instance. If Arsene continues to persist with his current policy, I fear for Arsenal’s long term future. In the last couple of months, I have seen at least couple of my American colleagues swithching their support from Gunners to ManU. Of course, they were never football (soccer) fans, but it does show the trend.

  18. lol with the amount of quality youngsters.. the long term future is something that you would not have to worry about…

what we do have to worry about is the present situation.

  19. Well, you can just forget about Gai. He’s not interested in leaving Barça. Last summer he rejected offers from both Arsenal, Chelsea and Livperool. He has signed a contract and says he can’t wait to make it to the first team, which he probably will do next season.

    So dream on arses.

  20. Every player has their price, and players get a massive chance here.

  21. How old is this guy, article states 16yrs in 05, and then 16 now - should the first not mean he is hading towards 19years old - not so young and would be a good purchase, cant ait for transfer season… CL winners will atrract some good players!

  22. He is born 91 so he is 16

  23. Seen videos of him, looks very impressive! Smart, quick, good technical skills. He even looks like Messi when playing lol!

  24. How ridiculus you englishmen are… Gai will make it to Barcas first team this summer. he has never intended to leave Camp Nou and all you have to dream about is “Of course we received offers” from his agent…
Now fuck off with your so called youth policy and from tiome to time you can see us doing real youthwork, unveiling real talent, not only buy young prospects, educated in other clubs! You had your turn on Paco ehm Cesc but soon the proximate prospect you have stolen from us sucked… you can dream on on Assulin but in reality you’ll just see him in blaugrana maricones!
