Pedro Botelho – Arsenal’s New Wing Wizard + Video

In the summer of 2007 Arsenal signed Brazilian left midfielder Pedro Roberto Silva Botelho from Figueirense.
Pedro came to Arsenal in January 2007 on a two week trial . and in his time here he featured in a Under 18s game, Arsenal were impressed but he returned to Brazil where he finished the season.
But we would go back in for him, in July 2007 a deal was reached to buy him for a fee thought to be around £1 million pounds, work permit issues meant he couldn’t play for us straight away so he followed the same fate as Carlos Vela, going out on loan to Arsenal’s link club Salamanca, but due to issues in Spain he cant link up with them till he turned 18, so he has been training with former club Figueirense. Salamanca Squad Photo
A tall classy skillful left sided player, he can play left back, left midfield, central midfield or even as a left sided striker in a 4-3-3 formation, also very good on set pieces, both taking and getting on the end of them.
In December 2007 Pedro turned 18 and he came over to train during the Winter break getting to know his team mates better, he also featured during our open training sessions where fans could watch him play. Picture Of Pedro Training With Arsenal.
Since January, where his registration forms were completed and he was able to pull on the Salamanca shirt, he has featured alot, starting off playing as a left back in his first game, he was moved forward to play as a winger, where he has thrived, the highlight so far came on Saturday where his pace and skills won Salamanca three points, as he raced into the box, and was kicked down for a penalty which was converted.
His posses all the qualities needed to be a superb winger, he likes to start in a wide position, and then either come inside or stick to the touch line, he is full of tricks and skills as well as pace, his intelligence on the ball is amazing, he is left footed but is starting to use his right more and more.
The only downside to his game is that he is very light weight, he needs some time to develop and with some work in the gym he can be a real asset.

Thanks Guys.
yes i would expect him to be first team, and as a left winger, or maybe left back should Clichy get injured.
not sure on the squad number, but he is 20 for Salamanca, the other player Di Maria, we made an offer which was accepted but at the last second Benfica out bid us.

Di Maria doesn’t have enough quality for Arsenal. I’ve seen him play about 20 matches and he is awfully greedy and ridiculously ambitious.

Di Maria joined Benfica because he couldnt get a work permit for the UK.He knew he would have to go on loan somewhere so he decided to join Benfica instead.

Top Blog mate, thanks for adding my link to your site.
Gotta say that run was awesome on that video, looked quite strong compared to what you would think he would be.
I would have thought he would need to stay in Spain for a couple of years before he can come to Arsenal so that he can get a Spanish passport.

he is a left sided midfileder and carlos vela can play bot wings and is a striker it will be slick wen they both come let the game begin.

But what, will he arrive next season? No chance he’s getting work permit.
Agogogogogo said this on February 27, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Not sure on that, he played for Figurense’s first team, unlike Carlos, so i think its slightly different.

Great work mate. It’s a pleasure to read an arsenal blog that adds something different rather than regurgitating the same shit everyone reads on arseblog anyway.
Seeing you appear an authority on such matters, any idea if it would be possible for Vela to be recalled now? NOt suggesting it’s in any way likely, just curious…

Watched the video. He maybe slim, but he looks powerful. Much like Henri, in build. Perhaps the professor has managed to clone our greatest forward.

Geez, we have so many good young players out on loan at the moment. Can’t wait to see them play for us. Especially Vela. And congrats on the award.
Josh said this on February 28, 2008 at 7:01 am
That run reminded me of Henry 3 or more years ago. Just needed the finish, very promising player. His body movement completely fooled the opposition players and he’s quick! him n vela could form a great partnership.

Slightly off topic but do you know if Arsenal have arranged any friendlies over the next few weeks. We have a few players coming back from injuries, and I dont see too many reserve of youth games lined up.
Last year we played a few ad hoc reserve games mid season and I thought we would do the same.
We have Song, Diaby, Djrouou, RVP and Rosicky who have been away from the the first team for a while, plus there is Denilson and Toure that may be in need of some first team football.

Di Maria is a good player but yes he is a bit greedy and his quality hasnt really translated into statistical success so far this season, still time for him though. Im exited about our 2 lads in spain (3 if you count Merida), Vela has made an impression and Pedro seems to have been a bit of a wonderkid for Salamanca this season, duno how they will fit in with the first team when they arrive, id imagine vela will find it hard to get games up front but left wing is a possibility and hes been playing there regulaly for Ossasuna, doubt he’ll be a regular in his first season though (which should be the next one i believe) although it all depends on his performances when he gets the chances of course. Pedro probably will have another season in spain although probably with a La Liga side as was the case with Vela, when he gets here he could have a slightly easier time getting into the side depending on how the club r doing by then and whos come and gone (hopefully not too many players), but there again, if vela makes an impactand Traore forfills his potential, it might be a bit of a mountain for him, as hed have 2 players ahead of him at left back and 2 ahead on the left of midfield with vela and Rosicky and of course Hleb is pretty good there aswell (better than Rosicky in my opinion), but we’ll just have to wait and see, of course if he really hits it off in spain (something which i dont believe vela has quite managed although there is still time) he could go right into the side.
